If One Soul Gets Saved It is Worth It

It is a sunny, spring day…

Memorial Day weekend

A wonderful day to be out and about on the Harley

Utica is having its annual ice cream festival, time to check it out

The  traffic is busy, better be careful, too many people don’t look

She didn’t

She was in a hurry

She didn’t want to wait in traffic

So she did it

In a moment

In the blink of an eye

She whipped her little car around, making a u-turn

And there we were

Too late for everything but what was going to happen

Thrown from the motorcycle

Wife, sister,  daughter,  mother, granddaughter….

Hit the pavement

And in one, swift, awful moment she is no longer breathing

Her lifeless body lies on the pavement

Every dream, every hope, every opportunity of tomorrow now gone

We turned to God and asked why

We prayed for strength

The heavens were silent and they remain so even to this day

In a moment of anguished religious passion someone cried, if one soul gets saved through this it is worth it all

Not it is not

How dare we reduce the worth of a life, this one life,  to that which God can use for his means

No, No, No

Let them all go to hell

For one more day, one more time where the joy and laughter of family can be heard

For one more day of all the complexities family brings

One more day.

(In honor of my sister-in-law Kathy Hughes who died six years ago)

Hey Bruce. I saw the title of your post….so I decided to start reading it. I should have known. Now, you’re not “playing fair.” Don’t try an lure people into reading one of your posts just to “preach to them”…..that’s not fair is it? You say you don’t like it but then you go and do it yourself….lol. I stopped right when I knew you set the hook on me so your “method” didn’t work. ;-) Take care Bruce.

I am just one man with a story to tell. Not trying to hook anyone. I am quite indifferent to such matters. If my writing helps someone, fine. If not, that’s fine too.

Like a good Baptist you read til you didn’t like what you read and then put it aside. Can’t have beliefs and practices challenged…

Why didn’t you know gregg? Shouldn’t the Holy Spirit have informed you prioer to reading here? Did you pray first? What are you doing here if you think Bruce is out to “lure” you? I found Bruce’s post here touching and your comment insulting. But not to worry. I’m probably not being fair right?

Thank you. If Gregg read all of it (and maybe he really did) he would have seen how personal and painful this was. It had nothing to do with trying to hook someone or trying to get them to see things my way.
