Over the weekend I received the following email from a woman with Jesus First in her email address:
So glad that you read every email. I agree with the “older” Florida woman who told you the truth. There was No evidence that Jack Hyles ever did anything wrong or he would have been fired too. There was No affair. How sad that you spend alot of time writing and writing and writing about the sins of others and never consider that God will judge you one day. You look sickly, are you leaving this earth soon?. Also Linda Hyles's damnable statements about her family would be thrown out of a law of court. There is no truth to her sick boring speech. She is in a cult now, that stupid fool. She ran to her father's funeral to get her “share” of money, I sure hope she didn't get any. Johnny couldn't stand her lies and divorced her 19 years ago. Apparently she couldn't get another man since she uses her ex's name.
I am always amazed by the continued denial over what Jack Hyles did years ago. The evidence of his infidelity is there for all to see and either Jack Hyles was an adulterer or there was a colossal conspiracy to make him look like one. A conspiracy, BTW, that involved hundreds of people. I am going with…Jack Hyles was an adulterer, as was his son David Hyles and son-in-law Jack Schaap.
I also find it interesting that most every email I get defending Jack Hyles comes from a woman. I can’t quite figure out WHY this is so. Maybe some of the women who read this blog can help me with this.
If this email is an example of putting JESUS FIRST, I shudder to think what would be written if someone put JESUS SECOND.

Sorry, I don’t have a clue why they defend him, but I hope none of these crazies try to drag you into a “law of court”!
I find it amazing as well how people cannot or WILL NOT see the truth about Jack Hyles. I am a Baptist preacher and I used to be enamoured with him and his ministry. I have hundreds of tapes/CD’s of his sermons and it doesn’t take long to realize how much of a liar he was and a liar is just a “hair” away from an adulterer. I have heard him tell things that were physically impossible to do, yet he said it and it is obviously not telling the truth.
One thing I noticed while listening to his recordings; he would talk about him “leading” a soul to Christ or going “soul winning”, yet he never had one walk the aisle of FBC, Hammond and being baptized. There would be hundreds coming down the aisle professing Christ, but, if you talk to ANYONE at FBC, you will not find a SINGLE PERSON who says that Hyles led him to Christ. Yet, in his sermons, he would brag about going soul winning and he would “win” everyone he talked to. But, it was always somewhere besides FBC. It was on the road in another city, or on a plane or an airport, but not in Hammond. I have a friend who was a graduate of Hyles-Anderson College. He was there for 7 years and I asked him about it. He confirmed to me that he NEVER knew of anyone there who had been “won” by Hyles. Strange isn’t it?
Thanks for sharing this, Marty.
I think it’s called “denial” Bruce. In my experience, some of the greatest defenders of patriarchal abuse were women.
Once you really know what you believe, inconvenient facts don’t have a chance.
Hi Bruce,
The title “Jesus only” in her email address is a travesty of the Jesus’ story in her life. She is in complete denial of Jack Hyles adventures and she refuses to face the evidence. How anyone who has read the Jesus’ story closely rather than through the eyes of Paul as interpreted by the ‘infallible’ Jack Hyles with his ‘infallible’ King James bible could believe all the IBF nonsense is beyond my understanding.
However, I can understand people trapped in a Fundamentalism taught by Hyles graduates (It’s like a lot of other Fundamentalism) and are encouraged not to listen to other points of view could be trapped. Many of their pastors are sincere, but sincerely wrong. This woman appears to be a victim of the IFB system but I wish she would LEARN a liitle graciousness towards you and your sincerely held former Christian beliefs and practice and seek to compassionately understand your story, why you left the IFB system, and why you are now an atheist.
Shalom,
John Arthur

Hi Bruce,
This woman lacks any understanding about what Jack Hyles daughter went through. She has a very judgemental attiditude towards her and towards you. She needs to espcape from Fundamentalism so that she can gain greater empathy for the plight of the victims of Jack Hyles but alas, so long as she is trapped by the Fundamentalist system and theology, she will find this extremely difficult, if not impossible.
Shalom,
John Arthur
A typical response from a Christian who doesn’t like what you had to say. Deny and respond with a personal attack. That ever so witty response,”you look sickly, are you leaving this earth soon?” seems to imply that she hopes you do.
A fine example of christian love for others.
“You look sickly, are you leaving this earth soon?”
You can just hear that famous “Christian love” spewing forth from this person, can’t you?
She should be ashamed of showing such thinly veiled hatefulness, passive-aggressive though it may be. Trouble is, people this far sunk into delusion lack a sense of shame.
Because women TO THIS DAY do not understand how powerful a man’s sex drive can be. Men, on the other hand, do understand how their sex drives can rule one’s life, and they are therefore more forgiving of another man’s “indiscretions”. So “Christian” men can fool their women into believing that because they (the men) are saved, they have some supernatural “anti-lust” shield, and the women buy into it wholeheartedly, because that is what they WANT to believe. And the men are fine with this, because it makes them more free to screw around. And then when a respected, revered, loved “man of God” is caught screwing his secretary, it is the women in the church who rise to his defense, and the men who sit there quietly, twiddling their thumbs and looking the other way. The women are thinking, “No way could my pastor, whom I have loved and trusted all these years, do such a terrible thing!” And the men of the church are thinking, “Yeah, he probably did it, the lucky bastard!”
Just my opinion. (I am a woman, BTW.)
If fundamentalism is your whole world, then it’s your whole world. You are taught from birth that it’s “us against them.” You’r taught that the devil is trying to mess you up, and especially is trying to mess up your pastor-destroy his testimony. Plus you’re taught that Eve caused Adam to sin, that women tempt men to sin.
I even think a strong pastor sort of can have a harem-women very attached to their firm leadership. The pastor can become like the ideal Christian man that their own husband probably can’t pull off.
I think your observations are really wise, Lynn.
Harem you say? Maybe i should try fundamentalism
I like to put jesus in context but i also like buddha and the flying spagetti monster.
Let me defend the Lord Buddha. When he died, his bones were gathered and they enshrined him, Jesus had no birth certificates and no bones, Did he or did he not exist? I ask a birther’s question here. If this lady could produce the birth certificate of Jesus, I would at least consider it. For now, why not put Jesus Second, but the Lord Buddha first? Where is God in all of this and why has he not come forward to claim this first seat?? Thanks, All.
