Stupid Church Sign of the Week

st_johns_award_2

The Stupid Church Sign of the Week Award again goes to St John’s Lutheran Church, Stryker, Ohio. (A Missouri Synod church)

The church has a church advertising sign on the corner of Route 6 and Route 66.  (666)  Smile One of my spies sent me a text detailing today’s little ditty:

Do for others what God has done for you.

The spy, also known as my wife, had this to say about the sign:

What, Ignore them?

What follows is a list of what God has done for me:

Now here is the list of what humans (and my dog) have done for me:

  • Loved me
  • Cared for me
  • Fed me
  • Clothed me
  • Nursed me
  • Educated me
  • Humored me
  • Been there for me
  • Grieved with me
  • Raised hell with me
  • Cleaned up after me
  • Kissed me
  • Made love to me (not the dog) Smile

And I shall indeed do unto others what they have done unto me.  God doesn’t stand a chance competing with such wonderful people…and my dog. Smile

“Made love to me (not the dog)”

You’re lucky I wasn’t drinking my morning tea when I read this one. It would have spewed all over my computer screen. :O

There is a website that sells church signs. You used to be able to spell out sayings on the signs to see if you like the layout, kind of a test drive for the sign.

One of my work buddies, not a Christian, found this site and realized the fun he could have. Because “John 3:16″ was usually on the signs, he quickly took advantage of this and made fun of another coworker named John, changing the signs to say “John is gay”. He started this rambling story of driving around the country and seeing these church signs all over the place. Sometimes he would misspell a word or leave a letter off. Sometimes it would say, “John 3:16 is gay”‘ always in reference to our John. John wasn’t gay, but he had been a Marine, so gay Marine jokes abounded. This was all in fun, amd we have a couple of gay coworkers who thought this was funny, too.

    Church signs, what a blast.

not long ago a local church had this on their sign….

The best way to improve your life is to get on your knees

I heard the greatest story about it that week. A group of high school boys all crowded under it pointing at it quite enthusiastically. The pastor saw the boys and, impressed with their enthusiasm, joined them in the photo proudly displaying two thumbs up.
