No, this is not a blog post about increasing blog traffic numbers.
As those of you who have been on the Bruce Gerencser crazy train know, I recently rebooted The Way Forward. You can read my reasons for this here. Right now, this blog is pretty tranquil. Just Bruce and his favorite internet friends hanging-out. It’s been great!
But this won’t last. Every day, Google, Bing, and Yahoo stop by with their web bots and scan for new data. That new data makes its way into the respective search engines and pretty soon some Evangelical will do a search and end up here.
And then another will and another will and…well you get the picture. The hostiles will return hoping to put the pastor-turned-atheist in his place. Some of them will try to evangelize and others will try to intimidate and destroy. This is how it must be because Evangelicals can not help themselves. Souls need-a-saving and Jesus’s name needs to be protected. Atheists are Satanic and Satan must be defeated.
So they will come. As sure as the Ohio State Buckeyes play this Saturday at Noon, Evangelicals will show up once again. When this happens, I know some of you will worry. You will think, this is what always does Bruce in. They wear him down emotionally and mentally and then he drops off the face of the earth.
And your assessment would be correct. Believe me, I know my weaknesses. I am hoping THIS time will be different and I want to explain what I am going to do to make it different.
First, I am going to let Evangelicals comment ONCE. I am going to let them say their piece. I will not let them post endless preachy comments but I will let them vent their spleen one time.
Second, I am NOT going to engage in fruitless, counterproductive discussions with Evangelicals. I will do my best to resist the urge to cut them off at the knees or somewhere else, if you know what I mean. I know these discussions never go anywhere. If an Evangelical has sincere, honest questions, I will answer them. However, I will not let another Marty, Grace, or Iggy take place. (and to some degree this applies to hardcore atheists who don’t think I am atheist enough or who think I am too cozy with religion)
Third, I am asking long time readers to pay attention to what goes on here. You know the warning signs. You know when I am starting to fall off the rails. When you see this happening, I want you to point this out to me. If need be, hit me in the *&^%(* head with a digital rock.
This time around, I really do want it to be..till death do us part.
