kim burrell

This is the one hundred and forty-third installment in The Sounds of Fundamentalism series. This is a series that I would like readers to help me with. If you know of a video clip that shows the crazy, cantankerous, or contradictory side of Evangelical Christianity, please send me an email with the name or link to the video. Please do not leave suggestions in the comment section.  Let’s have some fun!

Today’s Sound of Fundamentalism is a video clip from a sermon by Kim Burrell. Burrell is the pastor of Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston, Texas.

According to Charisma News, Burrell is facing MASS persecution over her anti-gay sermon.

‘Love and Liberty’ church. Seems to me to be quite the reverse.

I’m always saddened when I hear this kind of bigoted hatred come from a black person. Don’t they remember what it was like to be at the receiving end? Will gay rights activists have now to go through all the marches and protests that black civil rights protesters had to? Black people especially should be throwing their weight behind the rights of gay people. Martin Luther King would be turning in his grave.

I thought Jesus always hung out with the sinners of his time? I don’t get how churches feel they need to be obsessed with gays or particular decisions “sinners” make in their lives (it should be none of their business anyway!). When I still believed in this religion hogwash, I was taught every “sin” carried equal weight. All of this obsession with cherry-picked “sin” is beyond my understanding. If Jesus was the character I used to think he was, he wouldn’t like what he sees one bit.

    It’s no wonder I left this religion….
