The Sounds of Fundamentalism: Steven Anderson Says He is NOT Obsessed With Homosexuality

steven anderson

This is the one hundred and fifty-first installment in The Sounds of Fundamentalism series. This is a series that I would like readers to help me with. If you know of a video clip that shows the crazy, cantankerous, or contradictory side of Evangelical Christianity, please send me an email with the name or link to the video. Please do not leave suggestions in the comment section.  Let’s have some fun!

Today’s Sound of Fundamentalism is a video clip of Steven Anderson, pastor of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona explaining that he is a well-rounded Christian and NOT obsessed homosexuality (sodomy, the sodomites). This is the best comedy bit ever done by deep-in-the-closet Pastor Anderson .

Yeah, right, Steve… the fact that you get all hot and bothered, all excited by preaching about sodomy is not at all significant. You are a really balanced preacher, that is soo soooooo clear.

Oh, good grief! In some ways I prefer Anderson when he’s shouting and screaming to this quiet, seemingly considered, apparent appeal to reason.

Of course, it’s only surface deep restraint. Every sentence he utters is loaded with hate, disguised as reason. “You don’t agree with me? You’re a ‘baby Christian’. Who says I don’t preach about Roman Catholics, or Hindus, or Jews? I preach against them all the time (because I hate them so much). And of course all other religions are false because….well, because I say so.” I’d suggest that most Christians would be appalled at how much Anderson hates them because they don’t subscribe to his particular brand of Christian.

The trouble with this guy is that he adds nothing of value to life, quite the reverse. He’s one of those brands of person who is confident and articulate, rather like Ray Comfort or Ken Ham. Articulate people get listened to even though the actual content of what they have to say is so poor, entirely lacking in reason. I was listening recently to a debate between Ray Comfort and Matt Dillahunty, in which the latter wiped the floor with Comfort, but Comfort himself, and his supporters, will have had no idea they were so badly beaten. Someone like William Lane Craig, or Francis Collins, or even the Archbishop of Canterbury, can say things that make you think, even though you disagree with them, that actually add to the debate. Steven Anderson adds nothing, and if tomorrow he is found to have embezzled all his church funds and be locked away for ten years, the world becomes a better place for a while.

He is like that one crazy uncle who says, “I’m not racist I hate everybody.” steven is well rounded in the fact that he does hate just about everybody. I wonder if he knows that Jesus was a practicing Jew. The fact that he is so sincere shows just how out of touch with reality he has become because he is almost universally known for hate anger and rage. He should probably listen to himself about balancing his “diet” and love a little more and try to be nice to the people he wants to convert.

Seems like this dude has a balanced diet of hate. He despises most of humanity. I think it was Gandhi who said that the problem with most Christians is that they aren’t very Christ-like.

Yes, I’ve always thought the Ghandi quote should be writ large on the wall of all churches. ‘ I like your Christ but I do not like yor christians. Your christians are nothing like your Christ’

Yeah, sure you’re not obsessed with homosexuality, Steve. You are so completely lacking in self-awareness, that you might as well be screaming “Help!!! I’ve locked myself in the closet, and I can’t get out!!!” Of course you preach against everybody who is not your particular strain of Christianity; you are clearly a miserably unhappy human being, and it just eats you up inside that everyone else’s life is not as miserable as yours is. I pity your wife and children; it’s clear from the photos on your blog and your wife’s that your family is terrified of you. I shudder to think what sort of abuse they have to live with, your self-hatred is so deep. I dread the day that I turn on the news and find out that you have pulled a Robert Fisher (Google him.) Dude, please stop blogging, stop vlogging, and stop preaching, and get the help you so desperately need.

I was distracted by the fly! Knowing Anderson’s rants I expected him to say at the end, “Whats with this fucking fly? It’s probably a demon possessed sodomite fly sent from the pits of Hell to harass me!”

Man with hobby horse tells us in perfectly serious tones that it’s very sad when someone has a hobby horse and doesn’t want to hear about other subjects. Umm.

Also the casual, throw-away way he informs us all that he is anti-Semitic. Jesus was a Jew! If Rev Anderson doesn’t understand that, what Bible is he reading?

Therapists would have a lot of fun (kind of) assessing this guy, he is so totally out-of-touch with himself.

He probably got hurt by a Black Jewish Gay lover when he was younger and never recovered from the experience. Me think, the Pastor protests, preaches too much in a very un Christian manner. Thou shall not judge Pastor.

Matt.7. [1] Judge not, that ye be not judged. [2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. [3] And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Steve Anderson says that he is not obsessed with homosexuality. He could have fooled me! He’s always banging on about it. His hate language is very strident.
