On the Road Looking for God’s True Church

As Polly and I travel the roads of Northwest Ohio, Southern Michigan, and Southeast Indiana, we are always on the lookout for God’s True Church®. Here are a few of the churches we stumbled upon during our travels.

The photographs that follow were shot on US Hwy 127, somewhere between Van Wert and Celina, Ohio.

I found no web presence for Truckers for Christ. As you can see, the portable buildings are in deplorable shape, with little care given to how things look to passersby. One lesson I learned early on in the ministry is that first impressions matter. Evidently, whoever is running this “ministry” hasn’t learned this lesson.

There was a similar ministry in Alaska, in the mid to late 80’s. This guy and his wife drive a semi and pulled people out of ditches, jump-started cars, offered first aid, etc., on the highway to the North Slope (where like is produced).

What was funny, is that I remember him being a small man and having a small wife. Both had TV evangelist hair and very nice dress clothes. Not quite your stereotypical truck drivers. They came to our church, Bible Baptist, a few time to speak. One time they came was after she had broken her neck. That was the first time I had seen anyone wearing a halo stabilizer.

    Thanks for the memories, Bruce.
