Susan-Anne White, an aging British Fundamentalist politician and blogger, has decided to hang up the spurs she uses to ride homosexuals bareback. No longer will she bless the world with her anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion screeds. No longer will she parade before all the world her bigotry and hatred for anything and everything that doesn’t align with her narrow Evangelical worldview. Susan-Anne — dare I be so familiar? she hates it when I am — has been featured several times on this site, and she has graced us with her comments on more than one occasion. For those of you who are not familiar with White, here is what Wikipedia has to say about her:
Susan-Anne White (born 21 April 1959, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a Christian activist in County Tyrone. She stood for election to the local council in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council election, 2014 and only got 67 votes. She contested the West Tyrone constituency in the 2015 General Election, but came ninth out of nine candidates with 166 votes, behind Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol.
Originally from Newtownabbey, she moved to Trillick in 1997. Her campaign is based on 10 principles drawn up by Dr Alan Clifford, a Norwich based minister whose anti-gay and anti-Islam rants have led to police investigations in the past.
She has aroused attention because of her strong and isolating views. She describes herself as biblically correct, not politically correct.
She says she would “recriminalise homosexuality”, given the chance and claims that gay people “are not born that way, they are out to recruit. We are in danger. One demand after another.” She is opposed to the idea of gay people being allowed to donate blood. She would also make adultery a criminal offence, and is critical of rock music because “The lyrics are promoting immorality, the noise is deafening, and they also promote anarchy.”
Her 2015 manifesto promises to “oppose the global warming fanatics and their pseudo science” and “restore the concept of a family wage with the father as the breadwinner.” She told the Belfast Telegraph: “I don’t consider myself extreme – not at all. “It is society that has moved. Not so far in the past, most people would have shared my views.My views are extreme because society has moved away from God’s principles.” She opposes feminism “with all her might”, and says it is to blame for the recession. “They [feminists] are responsible for the economy – they destroyed the whole concept of a family wage with the father as the bread-winner and the stay-at-home mother. Women feel they have to be out in the workforce.”
On 25 October 2017, White appeared on Nolan Live in which she expressed her opinion regarding abortion laws in Northern Ireland. White was criticised in the press following her appearance, with the BBC also facing criticism for giving her a platform.
In 2015, White released her Manifesto — a statement of religious and political beliefs :

In 2016, White shared her thoughts with The Newsletter — a British (Northern Island) publication. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
An evangelical Christian, self-styled moral crusader and would-be politician, Susan-Anne White is on a mission to stem what she sees as the polluted tide of the permissive society.
Mrs White became a target of ridicule when she stood as an independent candidate in the recent Assembly elections with a manifesto which featured pledges to jail gay people and adulterers, oppose abortion, uphold parents’ rights to smack their children and abolish the Equality Commission and the Human Rights Commission.
It also reflected her opposition to sex education in schools, the ‘Islamification of British culture’, the LGBT agenda and her support for the reintroduction of capital punishment for murder.
It’s an eyebrow-raising list which many found outmoded and inflammatory; at the time social media went into overdrive, portraying Mrs White as a meddling, narrow-minded, Bible-thumping, battle-axe. I was intrigued to meet this seemingly formidable lady and she agreed on certain provisos: that I would ‘‘dress modestly’’ for the interview (make-up and revealing clothes are major bugbears); I would not paint her as a ‘‘figure of fun’’; and she wanted assurances that I was not out to promote a feminist agenda (the name of this section, ‘Woman to Woman’, caused her some concern).
Dressed demurely in a floaty, ankle-grazing skirt, Mrs White, 57, welcomed me into her modest Trillick home with tea and biscuits. She lives on a small farm with her husband Francis, a helpmate in her campaigns, and 17-year-old daughter Abigail, who is home-schooled and passes the time doing jigsaw puzzles and drawings of Disney characters.

The White’s lead a modest, quiet life, with no television, only a screen for DVDs, and no alcohol. Sundays are sacrosanct, although they rarely attend a church, preferring instead to listen to sermons on the internet. ‘‘Once strong Bible-believing churches are more often than not going the way of the world, they are watering down the message to please people, not to cause offence, they are so afraid today of telling it like it is because of hate crimes laws,’’ she says. ‘‘If I was worried about people’s delicate sensibilities I would never open my mouth.’’
Of the Catholic church, and others, she is unequivocal.
‘‘I do not consider it a Christian church and yet it was the church I was born into. But I am not singling out the Catholic church, there are many so-called Christian sects or denominations, but they are not Christian, because they have deviated from the Bible. Mormonism is not a Christian church, they are a cult. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not Christians, the Seventh Day Adventists are not Christians.’’

‘‘For people to treat me as some dimwit and to laugh and mock and think they are going to get some collateral out of me by poking fun at me, I feel righteous anger at that, because I am no fool.
‘‘I believe I’m in a war, a spiritual war and I believe there are enemies out there, they are enemies of God and because I’m on the Lord’s side they are my enemies also.’’
Mrs White said she would ‘‘recriminalise homosexuality tomorrow’’ if she had the power, adding her stance is quite soft compared to some.
‘‘I can point you to pastors and ministers in the United States of America who are calling for the death penalty.’’
Is that something she would like to see?
‘‘No, but it actually was a death penalty offence. In the Old Testament under the law of Moses adulterers were executed and homosexuals were executed.
‘‘I wouldn’t call for their execution, but I would call for their imprisonment,’’ she says firmly.
Mrs White does not believe someone is born gay, but that people are ‘brainwashed’ or ‘recruited’ into homosexuality, or have even been ‘‘molested as children’’.
‘‘I don’t like that word ‘gay’. To me gay means happy. They have hijacked that lovely word; they have ruined language.
‘‘Behind closed doors they are killing each other…..the sexual proclivities of homosexuals is so abhorrent and damaging to the human body that it hardly bears description. Sodomy is such an unnatural act, the body was not made for sodomy.’’
Despite these fervent views, she says she does not hate homosexuals.
‘‘No, I don’t hate them, I pity them. I know they hate me. I actually have tremendous compassion for them, especially the young ones caught up in that lifestyle.’’

White has what I call the “Elijah Syndrome.” I mentioned her in a 2016 post titled Evangelical Preachers and the Elijah Syndrome:
Every time I think of this story [ 1 Kings 19] I am reminded of the fact that a lot of Evangelical preachers see themselves as some sort of modern-day Elijah. And like Elijah, each thinks he is the one remaining prophet in the community standing up for God, the Bible, and Evangelical morality. Such preachers delude themselves into thinking that they alone are standing true, that they alone are preaching the right message. Some of these preachers, men such as Robert Lyte and AW Pink, think that the Christian church is so morally compromised that they can no longer in good conscience be a part of it (Susan-Anne White would another example of this, even though she doesn’t claim to be a preacher).

Much like twentieth century Evangelical preacher A.W. Pink who secluded himself in a coastal British community because he couldn’t find a church pure enough for him, White rarely attends church, finding fault with the lot of them. White will go to her grave believing that she was right; that she was a standard bearer for Jesus; that her beliefs constitute THE way, THE truth, and THE life. I truly feel sorry for her, missing out on so much of what life has to offer; missing out on befriending wonderful LGBTQ people; missing out on the wonders and pleasures of life, all because she thinks an ancient religious text (the Bible) and a little voice in her head (the Holy Spirit) tell her not to.
White started blogging in 2012. In a July 7, 2018 post, White said she was ending her blogging career:
We are closing our blog with immediate effect.
We will, from now on, watch with aching hearts God giving society over and giving it up to vile affections.
Society is doomed and divine judgement is sure.
We will no longer “cast our pearls before swine.”
We trust our labours in the Lord were not in vain.
We will now take our leave.
White has given up, choosing instead to stand on the sidelines and watch as God judges a world given over to vile affections. (Romans 1) According to White, people such as myself are swine and she refuses any longer to cast her wisdom-filled blog posts our way. White hopes that her “labours in the Lord” were not in vain. This is what Evangelical preachers and Christian zealots say when their works have had no effect. Well, Praise Jesus, God’s keeping record, and come judgment day he will reward me for faithfully preaching hate and bigotry. Countless Evangelical Christians wrongly believe that their God is going to reward them for being nasty, judgmental people. Look at me Lord, I stood true as rail for your Word and your cause. And Jesus will say to them on that day (Matthew 25:31-46):
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? The late Keith Green said it best in his song Matthew 25:
Bruce, aren’t you an atheist? You don’t believe there is a God, judgment, or afterlife. No, I don’t. But, White does, and I want her to think about her life from a Christian perspective and how she has wasted it hating and trying to harm people different from her. White wasn’t born this way; her religion turned her into what she is today. All too soon, White will go the way of all men, joining atheists, LGBTQ people, Catholics, Episcopalians, liberal Christians, abortionists, and Muslims in the dirt of the earth, serving up food for the worms that will slowly eat her body. Left behind will be White’s nineteen-year-old daughter. She has, I am sure, been deeply affected by her parent’s violent Christian Fundamentalism. It’s not too late to keep her from turning into her mother. If Susan-Anne would only repent and change her ways, she could put an end to her abominable legacy — much as my wife and I did when we left Christianity. The Evangelical curse was broken, and now our children free. To Susan-Anne I say, think of your daughter and set her free.
It is only in this life we can effect change. Once we die there are no second chances, no do-overs. There’s no God, no afterlife, no eternal rewards in Heaven or judgment in Hell; just eternal, endless death and nothingness. White admits her words and behavior have not elicited societal change. Perhaps there’s a messaging problem. Maybe, just maybe, White is worshiping the wrong God. I understand her not wanting to be an atheist like me, but there’s all sorts of Christianities out there that promote love, kindness, decency, and respect. Susan-Anne, for the sake of your daughter, please change your ways.

Daughter Abigail is 17, and passes the time doing jigsaws and drawing Disney characters. Is this her ‘homeschooling’? Even if it’s outside of the schooling side I find it sad that a 17 year old can’t think of better ways to pass the time.
This is the truly tragic aspect: Susan Anne White’s daughter has been kept at home from the start, has NEVER attended school, and is thus a captive audience for her disturbed and disturbing mother. (And there’s a father too, but I don’t hold out much hope about him, either.) Without a doubt, she will have grown up with a very narrow and very distorted view of the world and the people in it. I’d be amazed if she is allowed to spend time with anyone outside her family.
Scarily, there is nothing currently in the laws of the UK which says that it is illegal to do this. You can simply write to your local education authority and say “From now on, my son/daughter will be home-schooled.” There are people who can offer advice (e.g. about how to teach the various subjects effectively) but they will only visit the home if the parent actively requests it. . .and I can’t see Ms White doing that!
As I understand it, the “home-schooling” of Abigail has consisted of ACE pamphlets and nothing else. How can anyone “educated” like this ever be in a position to hold down a job or attain any kind of independence? This is child neglect. Then you add in that the mother is mentally unstable (aggressive, controlling, extremely neurotic, hateful about almost everybody) and what you have is child abuse. (Anyone in any doubt can go onto YouTube, or type into their search engine, and find the Nolan Show in Northern Ireland, the episode in which a panel of people and a studio audience discussed abortion and whether it should be legalized. Susan Anne White was one of the people on the panel.)
Madam you are a complete stranger to us and know NOTHING about our daughter’s educational history. You have stated downright lies in your comment. Our daughter has attended three schools in her lifetime to date. She attended Nursery school when a young child. She attended two Primary schools for several years (one of them was an Independent Christian school) before we commenced homeschooling.You LIE when you say she has never attended school.We did have a visit from the educational authorities when homeschooling our daughter and we requested the visit and the teacher was very impressed with our workbooks. Our homeschooling materials did consist of ACE pamphlets but only for a short time as we were not impressed with ACE so we used other Christian homeschooling materials instead.You have lied repeatedly in your comment and slandered us as well. You are a despicable human being. By the way, what has my appearance on the Nolan show got to do with homeschooling our daughter (who is now 20 and no longer homeschooled?) That you had never sent your daughter to school was something that I understood from various news outlets.
You have no understanding of what slander is. I have only pointed out that you are disturbed, intolerant and aggressive: all of these things are hugely apparent throughout your blog, in your banner-waving at gay pride events, at the political candidates’ event when you repeatedly made grossly inaccurate statements about gay people.
You think the “stand” you took on the Nolan programme was courageous?! You repeatedly interrupted people, you shouted people down, you ranted and raved, you came over as completely out of control. I suppose Nolan wanted the viewing figures but I was shocked you weren’t actually removed. Most people watching that programme, or in the audience, saw a woman who was mentally disturbed, i.e. you. Your appearance on his show is relevant here because it showed you to be disturbed and full of hate, neither of which can have done your daughter any good over the years. The people in that live audience could leave; your daughter, as a child, couldn’t.
I have my faults but to my knowledge I have never engaged in hate speech or actively promoted discrimination. I haven’t expressed racist views. I haven’t dismissed the testimony of rape victims. Anyone choosing to look through your blog will find examples of all these. You’re actually proud of them.

Ms White’s trust that her labours ‘have not been in vain.’ encapsulates most fundies’ deluded belief that this is always true. So evangelising, everything from leaving a tract on a bus to shouty street preaching, crusades etc etc etc will reap the glorious harvest of souls they are promised..funny how that never happens. I guess not a few of us here began to deconvert when we realised that. ‘God’s promises’ about the mega-success of our inappropriate efforts…well, was just ridiculous and had not a grain of truth in them. Religion is a tool, not the true origin of White’s hatred. If we were fortunate enough to be shared some of her early life experiences, it might become more clear why someone can become so horribly deranged. Belief, evangelical Christian belief, provides a template for hatred that they call love but it does not create the sheeple who fall for it. Why do some people go hog-wild nutso about it and become like White or Steven Anderson and countless others? Is it religion that is the cause? I have come to believe that the belief is merely the icing on the sick cake.
There seem to be more and more people suggesting that making guns harder to get would save lives and I am sure that is so but it does not speak to the basis of the thing, the causes that turn men (primarily) toward murder. The death of religion is only a victory if it dies a natural death, is no longer embraced by harmed people desperate to carry on without having to face the true source of their suffering. The Whites and Andersons, the Pearls and Pinks will always find a way to harm themselves and their progeny until we set our children free, until we deal with our own pasts and family histories instead of passing them along to each new generation. Young people who have been free, given freedom by their caregivers, cannot become sheeple. They very easily see that the emperor is running around naked and are free to speak the truth.
How is it ok for White, a woman, to run for political office, a job outside the home, but it us not ok for other women to have a job outside the home- that they are vile feminists damaging the economy?
How is it that people like White get to say who us a True Christian? Doesnt her bible that she supposedly loves and reads tell her that is the job of God/Jesus/Holy Spirit? Or did she skip that part?
He poor daughter. I hope she can get free of this hateful teaching. But being home schooled, a female, she was probably educated to be an at home mom and homemaker and has no other training.

Yes we have difficulty with some verses in the Bible i.e apparent contradictions and apparent cruel commands of God, but we do not abandon our faith in the Bible and the God revealed therein because of them. Instead we search for answers and we tell the Lord of our distress at certain verses in Scripture and we ask Him for explanations and sometimes He gives them.

All told, she has visited this blog hundreds of times. I genuinely feel sorry for Susan-Anne and her family. I was once on the path she’s on — the never ending quest for purity of belief and practice.

Firstly the Newsletter is not available on the British mainland even though we in Northern Ireland are part of the UK. It is a Northern Ireland publication only. Note the word “publication” Mr.Gerencser because you misspelled it as “publican.” Secondly you state that I believe that my belief constitutes THE way THE truth THE life. Not true. The views I espouse are not mine, they originate in the Bible.The Bible verse “cast not your pearls before swine” is figurative and not literal so I do not think of you and your ilk as literal “swine.” The verse means that there comes a time when it is a waste of time to share pearls of truth with unbelievers. That’s what happens when you have a PUBLIC blog. I saw your name in the server logs numerous times over the last couple of years, so I knew you were reading my blog, as I was yours. See, we had a mutual admiration for each other.
Your lengthy post demands a response because there is a great deal of the erroneous and misrepresentation of me in it.
Of course it is. No one ever tells the “truth” about you, right? You are always maligned and misunderstood. Ponder that for a moment. Perhaps you, at the very least, have a messaging and optics problem. Or it could be that everyone else is wrong but you.
Firstly the Newsletter is not available on the British mainland even though we in Northern Ireland are part of the UK. It is a Northern Ireland publication only. Note the word “publication” Mr.Gerencser because you misspelled it as “publican.”

Secondly you state that I believe that my belief constitutes THE way THE truth THE life. Not true. The views I espouse are not mine, they originate in the Bible.The Bible verse “cast not your pearls before swine” is figurative and not literal so I do not think of you and your ilk as literal “swine.” The verse means that there comes a time when it is a waste of time to share pearls of truth with unbelievers.
Spoken as all true Fundamentalists speak. Your beliefs=truth: your beliefs=whatever the Bible says (as if there aren’t numerous ways to interpret the Bible); you beliefs=straight from the mouth of God to yours. Readers of this are well aware of the figurative, illustrative use of swine and pearls. I know we are a bunch of liberal Christians and atheists, but we really do know the Bible, and we really do know a closed-minded Fundamentalist when we see one. I am speaking literally here, just in case you didn’t catch it.

See above. I am not implying at all. I recently went to a seance and I channeled Keith Green. I asked him about you. He replied, “what a waste of energy and life. She could be helping the poor, hungry, sick, homeless, and immigrants — show her my Matthew 25 video — yet she spends her time preaching hate and bigotry. Someday, when she reaches the pearly gates — that is IF she makes it to the Motel 6 in the Sky — Susan-Anne will find out that her Jesus was a figment of her imagination.”
That you missed the import of me posting the Matthew 25 video is telling. Ponder what you SHOULD be doing with your life; who it is that might truly benefit from your good works. What you are now doing is a waste of time.
You state that my views have harmed people and that we espouse a “violent Christian fundamentalism” and you speak of my “abominable legacy.” Provide examples please to back up your outrageous claims.
I am talking about your “message” and how it is harmful to those whom you have deemed vile sinners in need of your brand of Fundamentalist Christianity. You know: Muslims, LGBTQ people, women who are considering having abortions or who have had abortions, and anyone else who has been the focus of your bigoted, hateful words.
Your legacy is your daughter. The fact that you have inculcated her with a typically virulent form of Fundamentalism can only cause her physiological harm (much as it has harmed you, even if you don’t see it, and it is for that reason I am genuinely sorry for you). I hope as she gets older she will turn from the religion of her parents and, at the very least, seek out a kinder, gentler, inclusive faith.
Finally Mr.Gerencser I have not visited your blog “hundreds of times.” What an exaggeration!
Server logs don’t lie, Sister. Maybe someone else is using your computer/smartphone. If so, I hope it is your daughter reading my writings.
Just in 2018 alone, the server logs show 55 visits. If it makes you feel any better, less soiled, your visits to this site are closer to a couple hundred or so.
I wish you well. I mean that. Now that you are not blogging, maybe you can find a meaningful way to help others; you know showing love, kindness, and compassion instead of hate and bigotry.

She insisted several times over the years on her blog that she would only give the blog up “when the pro-sodomite lobby manages to force me to shut the blog down.” (Or words to that effect.)
Susan-Anne White and her husband attended quite a few Pride events, in order to make their “disapproval” felt and I wonder if during one of these or at some similar event recently she and he were warned by the police about hate speech. She has overstepped the mark in the past, most notably when she was running as a candidate in an election and repeatedly insisted at a public meeting that “Gays are 40% more likely than heterosexuals to abuse children.”
Ms White is a bully and, like most bullies, she is probably frightened of people in authority. She insists that the only law she will obey is that of God (her own personal interpretation, of course!) but that is not an approach likely to find favour with the police or the judiciary.
Of course, it’s perfectly possible she has discontinued the blog because hardly anyone ever posted on it. She’s shouting into the wind and hardly anyone is listening, that must be depressing even for her.

Didn’t you know that much of the bible is mythology? Have you read John Shelby Spong for a more up to date view of Christianity? Didn’t you know that some Christian pastors are atheists and that others are agnostics? Don’t you know that the literal view of the bible god is a myth. He’s one who supports the barbarism and butchery of bloodthirsty savages such as the false prophet Samuel who told Saul to murder the Amalekites and put not only the soldiers to the sword, but defenceless women, children and babies.
Your very violent god also permitted a man to marry a virgin he raped in an open field, provided the rapist paid the bride price to the young woman’s father and he accepted it. The woman was then to be married to her rapist for the rest of his life.
Didn’t you know that Yahweh permitted the Israelites to own slaves of foreigners? That women were considered the property of men in the OT and that he wouldn’t allow women to become preachers of the so-called gospel? Yahweh was a patriarchal dictator and men following his example, too often become patriarchal dictators in the church and in their homes.
Your holy book was written by bloodthirsty, violent, savages who created god in their own image or likeness.
Wouldn’t it be far better for you to give up your Fundamentalism and accept a kinder, gentler Christianity or become an agnostic or an atheist. Maybe, to find liberation from Fundamentalist violent views of God, you might consider becoming a Christian atheist or a Christian agnostic. Otherwise, why not become a compassionate humanist? or perhaps a compassionate Buddhist?
