2020: My Plans for this Blog in the Year Ahead

worst blog

Thank you for reading The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser in 2019. Readership numbers were up over last year, and I hope this will continue in 2020.

Over the coming months, I hope to:

  1. Change and update the site theme
  2. Update broken links
  3. Update and refresh Facebook page and Twitter
  4. Finish off orphan series
  5. Start podcasting
  6. Update and expands and repost some of the posts from 2015
  7. Continue to write about Evangelicalism, the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB) church movement, and clergy crime (Black Collar Crime series)

Sometime, sooner than later, I must make a decision about what to do with the daily digest mailing list. Over the past two years, MailChimp has increased the cost of its service by 40% (25% rate increase last month) over the past two years. While the raw subscriber numbers show 931 subscribers, the metrics show that less than 10% of subscribers read one or more posts on any given day. It is likely that I will move the mailing list to Automattic’s Mailing list service via Jetpack. Readers may have to re-subscribe, and I am sure that a few readers will be pissed off by the move. Sorry about that . . .

Health willing, I hope 2020 is the best year ever for this blog. Your kindness and support are appreciated.

Hi, Bruce! I am a devout, active evangelical who reads your blog to better understand atheism. It’s why I’m an infrequent commentator as I don’t come here to defend my beliefs. I come to understand the other side. I am also appalled at the current state of the evangelical church in both their politics and the sex scandals. I appreciate the points you cover in the blog. I may not always agree, but I do have a better understanding.

A podcast? I love podcasts, at least, I’m getting into select ones. So I’d listen to yours. Happy Solstice day!

I can’t wait to hear your podcast! I love reading your blog, especially the war stories. I am a devout believer, but I can very much relate to your story and have no desire to change your beliefs. While I don’t come to the same conclusions as you, I agree more than I disagree with you. Best wishes to you, Polly and your family. Hope things are better on the Health Front in 2020.

I am a regular reader, and I will continue to subscribe. I follow you on Twitter and Facebook, so please let us know when the change will take place. I would hate to miss your newsletters.

As a digest reader, don’t sweat any changes. I’ll figure it out. Do whatever makes your life easier. Ours is a privilege to read.

I also look forward to a podcast. Kind of hoping you revert to hellfire and brimstone preacher mode. 🤣

    Merry Christmas,
    Justin

When you design your new blog, is it possible to put a “like” button on the comment section? A lot of people write stuff I like and I would like to “like” it!

Re. the Daily Digest, maybe write a post explaining how easy it is to use RSS, and how it’s useful for other sites too. 🙂

If you need help when you change the theme and update the site, just holler. I have been designing sites in WordPress for 8+ years. Just finally beat a nasty one into submission this week. Contact me at the email I posted here.

Look forward to the 2020 version and the podcast! Will be looking at increasing support to you if all hell doesn’t break loose in the finances. You do good work here, Bruce Almighty and the the voice of Reason always confirms my exit from a life of faith. I often wish many of my long-gone extended Christian family, some of whom I know question their beliefs, would take time to read your blog in their search for peace. For me, the peace that passeth understanding is no true peace at all and the peace that comes by way of simply being human and telling human truth, brings true peace, such as it is in this Trumpified world. Thank-you for your efforts and all the best to you, Polly et al in 2020.

I’m delighted with the opportunity to keep reading your blog for another year–and many more after that, I hope. Best wishes to you and the ones you hold dear for 2020 and beyond.

Hey Bruce! Glad to see you are going to me Denise your site. You deserve the best site money can by. We’re you ever able to read the review I wrote where I featured your blog? I enjoyed researching it and talking with you about it. I’ll leave the link in the comment area for you to read at your leisure. Thanks!

Podcast – no!!!! Other changes likely good. I just don’t have time for podcasts. Someone else I follow just stopped because they didn’t have time to do them- I told him I missed him

I’ve been talking about podcasting, doing videos for years. I have the technical skills and equipment to do them, so we shall see. 😀 Hopefully, I can successfully merge podcasting into my weekly routine.
