Christians Say the Darnedest Things: Man Buns Are a Sin Against God

owen strachan

Men: cut the man bun. Lop it off. Time to look like a man. No one wants to say this in an androgynous age, but in obedience to God, do it. No perfect length, but cut that hair down your back. And hand that Scrunchie back to your little sister. Look manly. God’s glory is in it!

….

Paul: long hair is a ‘disgrace’ for a man (1 Cor. 11:14). Do people still read, believe, and apply the Bible?

— Owen Strachan, Baptist News Global, This is a tale of testicles, fertility, the length of men’s hair, and one bizarre tweet, January 24, 2022

Here’s a link to an excellent article by Rick Pidock on Strachan’s misuse of 1 Corinthians 11:14 (though I would have used this verse exactly as Strachan did back in my Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB) days).

Owen Strachan needs to get out of his box and smell the roses. Almost everything he fights for is in some way misogynistic or regressive. Does he realize that he has wasted his whole career trying to put men and women into tiny little boxes and yet every year more people slip past his control and frankly give his way of thinking the middle finger on the way out. My real question is wether he realizes he is the poster child for everything wrong with modern day fundamentalism and his toxic legalistic thinking only serves as prime examples of why more people run away from his religion each day. He should keep preaching because it certainly isn’t doing Jesus any favors and that is fine by me. I just feel sorry for his wife and kids and the system they are trapped in.

    Just two things to say:

First, I’ve been aware of Owen Strachan for about two years now. And I’ve just got to say, even though Strachan is a major asshat, I find him to be really hot!

    What’s wrong with me???

Second, I’d like to see Bethel Church Christian Nationalist / Narcissist Sean Feucht gets into a scripture verse fight with Strachan over the issue of hair length. I don’t know who would win, but I’m willing to be there in a heartbeat to help Strachan nurse any wounds.

    Again, what’s wrong with me???
