Sounds of Fundamentalism: LGBTQ People Should Be Executed, Says IFB Preacher Dillon Awes

pastor dilllon awes

The Sounds of Fundamentalism is a series that I would like readers to help me with. If you know of a video clip that shows the crazy, cantankerous, or contradictory side of Evangelical Christianity, please send me an email with the name or link to the video. Please do not leave suggestions in the comment section.  Let’s have some fun!

Today’s Sound of Fundamentalism is a video clip of homophobe Dillon Awes preaching at Stedfast Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas — an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB) congregation pastored by homophobe-in-chief Jonathan Shelley.

Awes hatefully and violently, and, allegedly, “Biblically” stated:

Every single homosexual in our country should be charged with the crime, the abomination of homosexuality, that they have. They should be convicted in a lawful trial. They should be sentenced with death.

They should be lined up against the wall and shot in the back of the head! That’s what God teaches. That’s what the Bible says. You don’t like it? You don’t like God’s Word, because that is what God says.

Everything about Awes suggests this young preacher boy lives in the darkest corner of the proverbial closet, joining many of his fellow IFB preachers. Shelley has taught him well.

The saddest thing about this sermon clip? All the people who shouted AMEN! Here’s a church filled with people who are okay with rounding up LGBTQ and summarily murdering them. Sick fucks, the lot of them.

Bruce Gerencser, 66, lives in rural Northwest Ohio with his wife of 45 years. He and his wife have six grown children and thirteen grandchildren. Bruce pastored Evangelical churches for twenty-five years in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. Bruce left the ministry in 2005, and in 2008 he left Christianity. Bruce is now a humanist and an atheist.

And homophobic religious assholes like that one need to have their balls nailed to a stump and then someone needs to push them over backwards. My bible says so.

You know, I have read the bible cover to cover and I don’t recall the God commanded anyone for any reason to shoot somebody in the back of their head. I spent 8 years in Catholic school and at no time were we told we have to shoot anybody. Now to their credit we were told to turn the other cheek. Also I doubt that God or any deity at that time would order anybody to be shot as there weren’t any firearms available. This guy is really stupid. Like Trump declaring that in the War of 1812 U.S. forces captured airports. These people are flat out dense.

Of course there isn’t any mention of anyone shooting anyone with a gun in the Bible! Guns weren’t even invented yet, you complete moron! Instead, they stoned sodomites with stones! Duh!

This pissed me off enough to send this Texas MORON an email. HOW DARE HE??!! I hope the FBI and whoever needs to know, gets wind of his message of a call for murder. What a fucking asshole!! He just committed a hate crime!!! I think we should all stand outside his stupid little church and protest his hate for all the world to see, much like these nuts do at every abortion clinic, heckling anyone trying to go inside.

I’ll be sure to share any response I may or may not get from my email. I am really mad about this guy and his hate-filled, criminal ,messages.

Absolutely right! This guy would probably be in jail now were he in the UK, but even in the US I can’t believe that he hasn’t way overstepped the line of free speech, and moved into incitement to murder.

Brother Dillon Awes has never advocated for the murder of anyone. He has advocated for the DEATH PENALTY for sodomites. Murder is the unlawful killing of a person and the DEATH PENALTY is the lawful killing of some for the crime or crimes he or she has committed. Hence, Brother Dillon Awes didn’t break any law at all whatsoever.

Excuse me, Bushmaster, but I saw the video of this disgusting POS stating, ” Gays needed to be lined up and shot in the back of the head” and us sane people who don’t follow some bullshit religion don’t believe in your silly book of lies. Therefore-Bushwhacker, your claim of DEATH PENALTY FOR SODOMITES includes all you lying, cheating, wife-beating pedophiles who grace the pews every Sunday and Wednesday. “Brother Dillon Awes” is committing a hate crime for which I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law and YOU, sir, can go fuck yourself.

Shaddup, mortal. If your hissy-fit god-thing wants to smite people for breaking its silly rules, let it do its own damn smiting. Under real law, Awes is a criminal and needs to be treated as such.

You can use whatever wording you desire to justify this horrific bigotry, but no matter how you clean up the words, you are still calling for killing people with whom you have moral disagreement.

It odd to me that Christians have so much fear, or hatred, or both for gay people, and others in the LGBTQIA+ community, that they would call for their death. Why do you hate so much? What is there for you to fear?

And why do you defy your god? After all, it was your god who gave everyone free will. If your god allows people to choose, then who are you to call for their death? Also, if your god reserves judgement for itself, who are you to judge and condemn?

So, Bush Nest do you really want me dead simply because I do not live by your moral rules?

As a brit, I really don’t understand the US legal system. Isn’t there any legal comeback for this guy’s threats? On another US blog, I’ve been reading that several young men (seems it’s always males) have been arrested in different states for making crazy wild threats online that they are about to stage another mass school shooting. Aren’t there laws about inciting others to commit acts of deadly violence? I really don’t know.

Perhaps there needs to be a term to describe the kind of hatred freely spewed in churches like Stedfast… Maybe ‘Texas’…. In ‘Texas’ faith practice, somebody needs to be shot in the back of the head because Jesus loves you and the New Testament says so! As for Awes the preacher, there are myriad forms of ‘stupid’ and Awes is the stupid bully version of stupid.
What kind of society supports a Sunday morning family outing to hear utterly stupid hatred being spewed, tax-free? American Christianity. And hater, if you get bored listening to Texas belief, then click over to some whack-job Imam calling America the devil that needs to be routed. They are all the same virus, just dressed up in different clothes.

This preacher is inciting hate crime. I hope more and more people understand that this segment of Christianity is about control and hatred.

It seems religious statements (or should that be, ‘statements from religious people’) get a free pass, or are held to a different standard, when it comes to hate-speech. I dare say that this also depends on what religion you follow as well. For fundies of the Christian variety, it seems they can get away with incitement to commit murder, as this particular preacher is doing here.

Reminds me of a pastor who preached for two years on a passage in Matthew re: lust. I said to my husband, I think he has a problem.

Several years later, he resigned due to “health” problems.

    Actually, his affair was exposed.

Wouldn’t it be rather difficult for the Bible to say that God wants LGBTQ people lined up against a wall and shot in the back of the head? With what? Guns wouldn’t be invented for another 1,500 years. The Bible does have some things to say about preachers who lie to their congregations, though. None of them would be good news for Mr. Awes. Perhaps he should reconsider preaching hatred for a living.

Thank you Bruce for posting this. This is far beyond crazy Christian rants! I encourage everyone to report this to the FBI in Dallas at 972-559-5000 or report to FBI tip line at tips.fbi.gov. This is clear extremist views and does not represent all, however this is a hate group.
Ya know everyone forgets that Charles Manson never actually killed anyone, he just plotted, disorted, coerced and suggested. Food for thought.

    Thanks again Bruce…

I just don’t understand what people like this preacher want. I am a single gay man who has been celibate all my life. But, I am still guilty for not pumping out good Christian babies and “less of a man” for not having lusted after women all my life. The Southern Baptist pope, Al Mohler, thinks that not marrying young is a sin, after all.

By the Christians’ own standard, I might be holier than the lot of them, who get married and divorced and married again and divorced again, just like Saint Rush Limbaugh. Last time I checked, the Orthodox church makes allowances for two re-marriages after the first gets dissolved. But I believe Limbaugh, and many other “devout” Baptists and Christians can’t even prevent themselves from exceeding this limit.

My father once attended a Christian gathering for men. He said that, during a particularly emotionally-charged “tell-all-to-Jesus” public confession session, nearly everbody in the room admitted to some sort of extra-marital affair.

But then, it is me who is the immoral sinner who needs to be shot? Adultery is punishable by stoning in the OT, you see. And if we consider viewing porn as a form of lusting after a woman not your wife – Jesus’ own definition – how many more of these men are guilty of a capital crime?

For years, callous Christians have given me heartbreak upon heartbreak. And yet, I’m the one who offends them by just existing. My heart cries for any LGBT kid who might be cowering in fear in that congregation. I was that kid for many years. Some people just don’t have any compassion.

I heard brother Dillon Awes’ sermon and I agree with what he said 100%! I thank God from the bottom of my heart for the NIFB coming into existence! I admire how boldly they preach God’s holy Word from the housetops! It’s just too bad there aren’t more churches like the churches of the NIFB!

You have, therefore, a moral compass that is entirely missing its pointer. Why is it that fundamentalism so often correlates with moral bankruptcy, as in your case?

Of course, your comment may be intended sarcastically, but I can’t tell. I think maybe it is.

Like Geoff, I can’t really tell wether you are a true blue believer or just being sarcastic though I feel like if its the latter you might want to add a snark alert or emoji to signify your intentions.

That being said, the NFIB is an extremist hate group run by a bunch of abusive whiny ass insecure closet cases who want nothing more than to roll progress back to the 1800’s BCE. If they succeed they will only bring misery to everyone and destroy everything they touch. They only care about power and control and a world run by people like them isn’t a bastion of freedom and liberty. Look only to middle ages Europe or Taliban run Afghanistan for examples of what would happen if they got control. And don’t think for one second that you wouldn’t end up a victim the instant you took a tiny step out of line.

About the only upside I can see with the NIFB existing is that it allows odious, hateful people to gather in public so that everyone else can see who they are.

Eastern Orthodox Church Saint John Chrysotom said, “It is better to die 10,000 times than to live with the sin of having committed homosexuality.”

For most of its history, the church regarded homosexuality as a particularly abhorrent sin and European settlers in the US punished it with death.

It was only very recently with the advent of the Boomers that this started to change and we saw attempts to legalize this practice.

Even serious, hard-preaching Christians like John Macarthur will say that, “Homosexuality is an abominable sin, but it can be forgiven as long as the homosexual repents of his ways.”

Rare is the preacher who openly calls for the government to execute homosexuals.

It’s mostly the US, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand that allows this deviant practice.

The overwhelming majority of mankind, Christian and non-Christian alike, is against homosexuality and rightfully views the thought of a man having sex with another man as an abhorrent act.

You did not see this sort of unrestrained sexual deviance encouraged in the Soviet Union. By contrast, Russians held fast to Orthodox values and continue to do so.

Elliot, who claims to be a Christian, not be a Christian, evidently got a new device with a new IP address. This allowed him to evade the ban/block. So what does he do? Leave a vile, homophobic comment.

Good job, Elliot. You are forever banned from this site. Fuck off. Oh wait, you can’t read this. 😂😂

With all due respect, most non-Christians are opposed to homosexuality and transgenderism. The majority of nations are overwhelmingly against homosexuality and transgenderism.
