Jon Stewart Eviscerates CBS Over Cancelling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

jon stewart

CBS recently cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Jon Stewart’s late night TV program, The Daily Show, is also owned by the same network. Stewart and Colbert not only worked together for years, they are also best friends. I wondered how Stewart would respond to CBS paying a 16 million dollar extortion payment to Donald Trump’s government, and then, two days later, cancelling The Late Show. I need not wonder any longer. Stewart came out firing, eviserating Paramount/CBS.

I was waiting for Jon to wrap it up by saying “I quit”. I just hope he doesn’t quit or get fired but he obviously is not backing down. Well not yet anyway. It’s become vanishingly rare for any dissident with an audience of any size to be allowed to speak truth to power in this rapidly deteriorating oligarchic democracy. It reminds me of The Smothers Brothers who were also cancelled for criticizing a President in sheer spite of their popularity. And the same thing happened to Keith Olbermann in spite of his enormous popularity.
Oh well. Dissenting voices just cause unrest anyway. When all of media is neutered into conformity with FOX, America will become much more homogenous and conforming and peaceful. Won’t that be great? As Orwell wrote: “Freedom is slavery” so let’s all keep our heads down and obey our leader because God sent him to save us from democracy.
