Quote of the Day: The Brevity of Life by Clarence Darrow

clarence-darrow

When we fully understand the brevity of life, its fleeting joys and unavoidable pains; when we accept the fact that all men and women are approaching an inevitable doom; the consciousness of it should make us more kindly and considerate of each other. This feeling should make men and women use their best efforts to help their fellow travelers on the road, to make the path brighter and easier… for the wayfarers who must live a common life and die a common death.

Yes, indeed! If only we can get the children curious enough before their indoctrination. What a wonderful world this could be!

    Bruce,
Thank you for these quotes. I will use the second one to share today, as it’s particularly pertinent to some of the discussions I’ve been in of late.

Oh, how I long for the day that parents stop indoctrinating their children. Someday?

Unless we have the good fortune to find the EXIT door from indoctrination-beginning-in-the-womb, we must suffer the evangelical delusion, the cycle of self-hatred and sweet Jesus saving us over and over from ourselves, from the fact that we are not perfect and make mistakes, from the fact that we are just normal bipeds. As Kittybrat says, many of us long for the day parents have enough insight to stop indoctrinating their children.
My wife believes in God and I do not but we have chosen to let our children be free of convincing and cajoling and just investigate it all as they see fit, as they desire or not. They have done so and as young adults, 19 and 20, neither practice any active belief but are sensitive to others who do. All extremist belief is toxic, here on the Trump continent and in other parts of the world. The extremists use politics to further their ‘truth’ and the politicians use the extremists to win votes. It is a sick, emotional cannibalism.
