I Will Have Surgery Tomorrow

blogging

I am scheduled for major surgery tomorrow morning on my spine at ProMedica Hospital in Toledo. I will be in the hospital at least overnight. I am in horrific pain. Unable to walk more than a few feet, the neurosurgeon hopes this procedure will fix the pain problem, and hopefully also fix my lack of bladder and bowel control. Worse, I broke a tooth and had to have it extracted on Tuesday, and a day after that, the cyst on my back returned with a vengeance. I planned to have it surgically removed, but my back surgery comes first. When it &^%$*&^ rains, it pours. Life is what it is, but some days, I wish for just a bit of respite.

This surgery will sideline me for at least a week or two, if not longer. I won’t be doing much writing, if any, and I will not respond to emails until I am up to doing so. I appreciate your understanding.

I’m hopeful the surgery will go well. If it doesn’t, I want you to know I have appreciated your love and support over the years. Your friendship and kindness mean the world to me. Time stops for no one, but I hope I don’t have to punch my time card anytime soon. 🙂

Hang tough Bruce. Spine surgery sounds scary but the Docs doing it are the cream. I had spine surgery 24 years ago and after a few weeks of fragility, I found my self good as new. I was your age at the time and at 87 I’m still pain free, so far as my spine anyway. We’ll be thinking of you and looking for your next posts.

As I said in my email to you, I sincerely hope surgery went well. I hope you are recovering well and with as little pain as possible.

I forgot to say in my email that I will believe in a deity when the Browns win the Superbowl, not the Bengals. Come on, at least the Bengals have BEEN there. The Browns? No dice. I think I will die of old age before the Browns make it there. But honestly, I root for the Bengals so long as they are not playing the Browns. We Ohioans have to have something positive to root for. 🙂

    Feel better soon! ❤

Hi, Bruce. I’m sorry to see that your situation did require surgery, though it sounds like a more advanced treatment that could benefit you. My thoughts are with you and the family during this rough time. I am aware of new treatments coming online for all kinds of things, including blood tests that use biomarkers and epigenetics. While you are resting up in bed, I wanted to let you know that NPR, on the weekends is especially good. Have you ever listened to the Moth Radio Hour ? Fantastic personal stories, often very funny, by just average people in any given city or state, all around the country. Many are so relatable, and one can binge-listen, just by going to their website. That, plus BBC and Pacifica Radio from Cali. We all hope you will emerge a much happier, and pain-free person. Illness is never fun.
