The western US’s water crisis is caused by overpopulation and over-development.
It’s time for a multi-party political system with ranked voting.
Bonus: Michigan is the pothole capital of the United States.

Having lived out west one of the main reasons for the water shortage is businesses try to landscape it like they were living in the East instead of admitting to themselves they live in a desert. Irrigating business lawns is a waste of water. I often would see defective sprinkler systems spraying water into the parking lots and spraying when it was raining. Another biggie is allowing water bottling companies to bottle up their scarce water.
Yep. Yep. We lived in Yuma in 2004. Our water bill was cheap compared to Ohio. Car wash? $3.00.
A water collapse is coming. There’s talk about piping water from the Great Lakes to California and other southwest states. Bad idea.
Sorry. I can agree with most of what you said. But you left Firefly off the greatest series group. Tsk tsk.
And “Deadwood” (with Timothy Olyphant, pre-“Justified”). I’ve always struggled with Shakespearean language, but in “Deadwood”, the Shakespearean-like language just sings! However, also be warned, there are plenty of F-words in the show too.
I only have five choices. My top ten would definitely include shows such as Firefly, Deadwood, Treme, Dexter, and several others. I’m a TV addict. 🙂
Since you picked “Justified” as one of your top five, are you aware that FX on Hulu just released a new limited series with Timothy Olyphant / Raylan Givens, titled “Justified: City Primeval”?
One of my favorite shows. We just watched Firefly again for the nth time. I know every scene, every line, but I still love the show.
How can any list of the best TV shows not include Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul? FWIW we just watched, over the past couple months, Game of Thrones, again.
I would add Breaking Bad to the list. And I have a not-so-secret crush on Timothy Olyphant; I haven’t seen a lot of range from his acting, but he is HOT. 😁
I agree about the rank order voting. This 2 party system is killing us, especially as one party has become extraordinarily extremist.
I agree about Michigan’s roads. Ontario surrounds Michigan so it has the same general latitude and winter environment (also in Ontario they have the extra expense that they have to use dynamite). We did a tour from eastern Michigan and back through Minnesota. Roads were always impeccable. We laughed at a sign warning of a “DIP” that was hardly noticeable and wouldn’t have a sign in Michigan.
What’s the difference? Michigan can’t really charge tolls, since passing through doesn’t occur like the turnpike in Ohio. Ontario is Canada’s premier and richest province, Michigan most certainly is not in the U.S. Michigan has had stingy GOP control of the state House and Senate for the past 40 years. Yes, it makes a huge difference. While Democrats tend to want to add every feel good provision and proviso into a road bill, Republicans just don’t wanna pay.
Yep, it takes money to have good roads. We noticed a decline in road quality at the county/township level. Lack of funds, I suppose.
We lived in Newark, Ohio 18 years ago. Newark’s population is around 50,000. The city shared how many road miles they planned to resurface every year. I reached for a calculator and did the math = 25 years. No wonder the roads were so bad. Repaving every 25 years ain’t going to cut it. But, what could they do. Their road money came from the state and license fees. Republicans control the legislature and governorship. No chance in hell they are going to raise taxes to adequately fix the roads. So, Ohio is becoming Michigan. 😢😢🤣🤣
