Secular Humanism is about humans and what’s good for them. Christianity is about Jesus and what’s good for him.

If Dillahunty has stated that many probably most Creedal Christian leaders is “about Jesus and what’s good for him,” Not what’s good for all humans–every single human, I would probably agree. After all the last sermon I heard on the radio before I gave up hope in Christianity, (one day when I was discouraged), the famous leader stated that God has made some humans to be “toilets” and “spittoons”! And another, claimed “all humans are worthless.” Besides there are the Creeds including the Nicene.
However, I never believed in that creed or any of the other famous ones. In my adult life, I served as a Baptist youth minister, an elder, Bible teacher, missions volunteer, etc. During all that time, some Christians that I knew Did think that Christian view is all about what is good for all humans! You know like the one sermon by Billy Graham where he emphasized that even if only one human had failed, God would have sent Jesus to him! (Yes, I realize that other times in his career, Graham seemed to not have that all inclusive view.)
Wow ! Toilets and spittoons . It sounds like that particular preacher hates people to begin with, and it’s apparent that many of them do. I used to listen to the radio preachers as a way to build up my faith. Over time though, it was only the very hard- Right versions were allowed to be on. Not unlike the kind Germany had during the 1930’s, actually. Secular governments,at least in the West, are safer than any religious ones. Because they are largely neutral. I’m reading a book by Pete Hegseth,” American Crusade,” and I recommend everyone read this book when they get the chance. It’s a blueprint for a Catholic dictatorship, and this guy is one of DT’s picks for his incoming regime. Welcome to The Handmaid’s Tale, for real. We can’t say we weren’t warned……..
More like Christianity is good for the greedy, prosperity gospel pastors. Jesus is just the front for the crime.
There could be a Christianity designed to benefit humans – based on Matthew 25 and other verses that talk about helping others. However, the most prominent Christianities we see in the US benefit a political party or clergy or both, at the expense of humans.
Happy Holidays, Bruce , Polly and family. Here’s to a better time, we hope. So, Happy Holidays everyone!
