Imagine in Iran that instead of spending their wealth, billions of dollars, supporting terrorists or weapons, had spent that money helping the people of Iran, you’d have a much different country.

— Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as reported by Snopes

This administration’s lack of self awareness never ceases to baffle me. The U.S. government could be compared to a crummy dad with the way it handles finances. There’s always money for beer and cigarettes, but not for diapers and groceries. What do Americans have to show for all the taxes paid year by year? By contrast Canadians at least get some benefit from taxes collected. Most notably the publicly funded universal health care system. Sure it isn’t perfect, but everyone can get access to medical care without fear of financial ruin.

A personal example would be my Canadian partner who is battling lymphoma. There was full support to get her treatments underway, with most of the costs covered by the healthcare system. Had we decided to stay in Ohio the story would be very different. Paying taxes isn’t my favorite thing to do, but at least up here it allows people to get the care they need.

I hear ya, Jimmy. We have insurance through Polly’s employer. By all accounts, it’s better coverage than Medicare. $3,400 deductible, $6, 750 out of pocket, plus $4,300 in annual premium payments. If we reach the out of pocket maximum, that means we had $11,000 in annual medical costs. More often than not, we reach the maximum out of pocket. Medicare is a straight 80-20 plan. In recent years, my partner and I have had several major surgeries and hospitalizations. If we had been on Medicare, we would owe $50,000!

I hate where we are, health and insurance-wise. I don’t see a way out short term. The U.S. healthcare system is broken beyond repair. Record medical debt; record medical bankruptcies; and a Congress/President who doesn’t give a shit about the needs of everyday Americans.

Our health care system is totally broken. Bob was lucky to get the care he needed for his cancer, and his Medicare Advantage plan covered almost everything. (I think less than five hundred over the course of 2 years.) But we had to switch our plans when Anthem dropped Parkview (in Indiana, for this year they covered Parkview Ohio)…UGH.

Not so long ago, I actually respected Marco Rubio. Then he went all-in with Trump.

If he had even any basic awareness of post-World War II history, he would understand that the “terrorists” in Iran, like Castro in Cuba, Daniel Ortega, the Duvaliers, Trujillo, Noriega, the Taliban and other oppressors, are a direct consequence of US interference in those countries.

Oh the irony. Lil Marco can’t see the obvious – America ain’t great! We’re drowning in medical debts, student loan debt, stagnant job growth, paying for Trump’s stupid tariffs and now his stupid war. So much winning!

    Bruce,
I just read a report that the Trump Administration is shit canning the US Forest Service.
Just another notch on his gun of demolishing anything and everything good about this country.

Now Peter thumping / drunk Hegseth, is forcing the per-registration of our boys 18-25 into the military draft pool.

You cautioned previously your concern that Trump might start a nuclear war. I knew Trump was an idiot but thought he was more concerned with raping the economy for personal gain. Sadly that does not appear to be true anymore, he has stolen so much money that is inconsequential now.

It is with heavy heart that I watch this son of a bitch destroy the United States, and I suspect before he is done, it may be Western Civilization if not the entire world. The DNC, Biden / Harris, may have been bad choices but compared to this they strike me as Washington , Lincoln and Roosevelt.

I am beyond alarmed and regret the shit out of seeing this sorry bastard eviscerate this country.
