By Jason Hill, The Christian Post, The moral bankruptcy of atheism: My recent conversion, October 28, 2024
I [Jason Hill, a self-proclaimed former atheist and professor of Philosophy at DePaul University and a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center] had not realized that atheism is not just separation from God who is the source of all life and creation. The separation results in a deep chasm between one’s conception of oneself and a universal metaphysical order that comes from God’s creation mandate that links all human beings together in cosmic unity if they find they create a personal custom-sized individual meaning for their lives. But faith is about discovering the true meaning that lies in God’s laws, His love, and His divine purpose for our lives. There was an inverse relation that existed between the creation of my own personal meaning and its continued expansion in relation to my soul.
The bankruptcy of atheism comes from its rejection of God’s goodness. It is a rejection of the gift of eternal companionship, stewardship, protection, and, above all, a love that is timeless, and suffers from none of the finite limitations of human love. I began to see the moral depravity of renouncing God when I realized that the glorious purpose He had for my life was being sabotaged by my own willful and short-sighted vision of what constituted a good life.

What’s he been smokin’ ?
Someone ask him which god he’s talking about.
And I have seen the moral depravity of Christians who want to eliminate or eradicate people like me. The David Horowitz Freedom Center repeats and supports misinformation targeting trans and non binary people as part of the “radical left”. And of course they worry about what bathroom I may use.
So I will just keep rejecting the supposed goodness of this persons god, which seems better at hating instead of loving.
These people don’t understand what the word evidence means. If we were as morally bankrupt as he’s suggesting, you’d see it in society. More of us as opposed to Christians would be in jails and prisons, unemployed, using drugs and so on. That’s not the case. There isn’t any moral difference between Christians and atheists. We’re pretty much the same. Christianity doesn’t make you a better person than anyone else.
Well, bless his little heart.
If I were here on this earth without any access to mythology, there is no way I would look at everything around me and assume the existence of this guy’s particular deity. In fact, there are many concepts of “God” within Christianity, there isn’t one universal description of all the attributes of God. And if I were to read the Bible without the interpretive lens of church, I would assume that there are several gods, and that LORD is the main one, or the POV we’re supposed to accept. And if I were to read farther on, I would be confused as hell about Jesus, Holy Spirit, Father, LORD, and I wouldn’t know what to think about who they all are in this whole thing.
I’m doing just fine without having a deity, thank you.
There are a lot more Christians in prisons than atheists, as a function of their numbers in the general population.
Sage–You beat me to my response. Anyone who can say they worship a loving god while they work for the David Horowitz Freedom Center is either duplicitous or doesn’t understand what DHFC stands for.
