Bruce’s Ten Hot Takes for August 12, 2025

hot takes

Donald Trump thinks Alaska is Russia. Either that, or Trump plans to trade Alaska for a golden shower (pee) tape.

Karoline Leavitt is a liar. Every day, she stands before the American people and paints turds with faux gold paint. I’ve yet to hear her give a press conference without lying. But, she loves Jesus, right?

Congress can put an end to Donald Trump’s use of emergency orders to advance his fascist agenda, but they won’t. Congress fears what Trump might do to them if they oppose his policies, so they silently sit by while he burns our democracy to the ground.

Trump has no idea what his executive orders say. He’s has an “explainer” who explains to reporters what his executive orders mean. He’s cannot do this himself. A man of letters, he is not.

U.S. citizens and legal immigrants are being arrested without warrants by masked agents of the federal government. This is patently illegal and unconstitutional. Congress has the power to end these arrests, but they won’t.

Dean “Superman” Cain is now an ICE agent. Border problems solved, right?

Sherrod Brown plans to run for the Senate again. This is a perfect example of what we don’t need in Ohio. Brown, along with fellow Democrat Marcy Kaptur, ran centrist campaigns in 2024, alienating liberal and progressive voters. I found their Republican-lite political ads infuriating. I will vote for neither of them the next time around.

Marci Kaptur will be eighty and Sherrod Brown seventy-six when they are on the ballot again. Term/age limits, anyone?

We will never be able to trust labor statistics from the government again.

Am I the only one who wonders who is really running the government? Trump’s not. He seems clueless most days. I suspect the white Christian nationalists of the Heritage Foundation (Project 2025) are in charge of the federal government.

Bonus: Pete Hegseth’s favorite preacher is megachurch pastor Doug Wilson — a racist Christian nationalist. This should scare the shit out of all of us.

Bruce Gerencser, 68, lives in rural Northwest Ohio with his wife of 47 years. He and his wife have six grown children and sixteen grandchildren. Bruce pastored Evangelical churches for twenty-five years in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. Bruce left the ministry in 2005, and in 2008 he left Christianity. Bruce is now a humanist and an atheist.

Regarding Doug Wilson, I watched a video interview the other day where Wilson told the interviewer that, realistically, it could possibly take a couple of centuries of tenacity before the U.S. becomes the bona fide theocracy that Wilson and his ilk envision. What I don’t get is why someone like Wilson would have a centuries-long theocratic objective when these same people claim Jesus will return any day now.

Perhaps Wilson (and so many other “men of god”) have a sneaking suspicion / skepticism about Jesus’s supposed return, yet they aren’t willing to admit this skepticism to their congregations.

Back in my Calvinist days, I received a magazine put out by Wilson — Credenda Agenda. Excellent writing, right up my alley. That’s before I decided i was driving up the wrong alley. 😢🤣

Wilson is a racist, misogynistic theocrat; a son of the south who thinks slavery was a good idea. These views should leave him pastoring 25 people in a storefront. Instead, he is a megachurch pastor loved and followed by thousands. WTF is wrong with people? Want to hear horror stories? Talk to people who left his church — especially those who were excommunicated. Scary church with a scary pastor, regardless of the front Wilson puts on.

I recall the old Patheos N/R bloggers exposing this horrible excuse for a human being. He ordered more than one badly abused wife to return to her husband. He ‘counselled’ one very violent guy by telling him he wasn’t a True X-tian and led him to the lord…..wait for it……SIX TIMES. And the wife continued to get beatings. Sick to my stomach that he’s risen to prominence by his association with another horrible person masquerading as a good x-tian, JDV.

The checks and balances set up by the founding fathers are being systematically dismantled.

While I never trusted the GOP, at least in my lifetime (1959) onward, it seemed that party had a small level of empathy toward working class Americans and the poor, along with Democrats, passing landmark legislation in health care, social security and allowing freedom of movement and speech, but all the while acquiescing to the depredations of Corporate interests, those exploiters of human dignity and enablers of environmental destruction. Then came Reagan, whom changed the tax code and completely caved to the “money”.

The emergence of right wing, racist, propaganda, media outlets in the 90’s – think Faux news, led by the Aussie facist Rupert Murdock, and the many derivatives subsequent to it, make Joseph Goebbels proud. Then came the politicization of religion, coalescing into the Christian Nationalist movement, a well organized GOP / facist front and…………………Donald Trump……and here we are.

I suppose it was inevitable that any hope for the American Experience, in terms of “We the People” was doomed to begin with, but I was caught off guard that a populist sack of shit, a populist buffoon, like Trump, would take power and systematically destroy the constitution, the separation of church and state, and annihilate the vision of the Founding Fathers. Not that those guys were “pristine” empathetic souls, but at least they attempted to create a (White) society with some level of fairness and equity, to escape the lunacy of European Religious orders, and to allow citizens to improve their lot outside of being born into aristocratic “Blood”.

The democratic party leaders are weak and ineffectual, torn between loyalty to corporate and money interests and
their pitiful efforts at minor and diminishing efforts of Gov’t wealth allocation to the middle and poorer classes.
We see more and more Democrats switching parties or “bending the knee” to lord Donald.

All of this is exacerbated by the rather apathetic, stupid and idiotic American voter. Fully 1/3 of eligible voters did not take 15 minutes of their time to cast against this monster that is currently in office. The third that voted for him,
or should I say the 90% of that third, that did vote for him, voted against their own interests. Many of that 90% are now seeing the stupidity of that decision. Hey assholes, Faux News, Newsmax and your preacher DO NOT have your best interests or your CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS in mind. (SMDH)

So, Bruce, your followers should brace themselves for the next 3.5 years. Once the GOP gerrymanders the opposition out of every district in the country, fills the courts with a legion of Trump sycophants like
“Roland Freisler”, we may expect to be rooted out and (HUNG) for making posts like this, on any forum, in the near future.

I am under NO ILLUSION as to what is coming.

    All hail the Emperor!

From Google, but my own words in capital letters:
“Abraham Lincoln grew up in a highly religious Baptist family. He never joined any Church, and was a skeptic as a young man and sometimes ridiculed revivalists. (PROBABLY BECAUSE OF HIS ‘RELIGIOUS’ UPBRINGING. JESUS [GOD HIMSELF] WASN’T FOND OF ALOT OF “RELIGION” GOING ON IN ISRAEL IN HIS TIME, EITHER)He frequently referred to God and had a deep knowledge of the Bible, often quoting it. Lincoln attended Protestant church services with his wife and children. “

So, over here in Canada 🇨🇦, we have a bit of a different situation. Different shit, same “Emporer” system. Case in point 👉 A worship leader from the USA went all over the world 🌎, to play music 🎶. Turkey, Iraq, you name it. Right in the very heart of Islamic territory. But where did he get the most persecution? You guessed it..in Canada 🇨🇦, he got robbed of thousands of dollars by dishonest governing entities, in the name of “tolerance”.

Doug Wilson has been on my radar a few years. Some of the atheist bloggers on the old Patheos discussed him. Back then, he just seemed like a weird extremist but now he’s entering mainstream with his connections to government and his Classical Christian school network. Fun fact – the property that housed the fundamentalist Christian school I attended was bought by one of these Doug Wilson classical Christian schools, and Pete Hegseth’s kids attend it. One of my former classmates is on the board, and his sister is a teacher. Several of my former classmates send their kids to that school. Another fun fact – i used to follow a fitness influencer who was big into my sport of obstacle course racing (he hosted a podcast then turned the podcast over to some other guys after he stepped away from OCR). He had some interesting n=1 input on different wellness topics, but a lot of that requires buying supplements, products, doing cold plunges and saunas, etc. It’s mostly geared toward fit men with a good amount of time and disposable income, but was still interesting. Unfortunately, that kind of thing became entry into right-wing manosphere MAHA BS. I stopped following the influencer when he had his pastor, Doug Wilson, on a podcast to talk about healthful eating. I noped out of there so fast! I was appalled. I mean, the signs started popping up – the influencer started publishing a gratitude journal, talking about religion some, started discussing how he needed to be a better husband and father by being a leader instead of “little boy”, and got into hunting game. Not that those thongs are terrible, but the Doug Wilson think really caused me to put it all together.

As a country, we are seriously screwed. Our economy is going to crash, but worse, we are becoming a police state where our rights will be discarded. White people are less likely to be targeted, but everyone who doesn’t follow Dear Leader and the Ministry of Information will be in danger. The parallels to 1930s Germany are clear to anyone who knows anything about history. And Faux News is mum on the subject so right-wingers have little idea.

Klaus Schwabb (leader of World 🌎 Economic Forum) quote: You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy” (alternatively “You’ll own nothing and be happy”) is a phrase published by the World Economic Forum (WEF).[1] The phrase is based on a 2016 essay by Ida Auken of Denmark, published by the WEF, about a future in which a hypothetical person relies on the sharing economy for many of their needs.[2] The phrase has been used by critics who accuse the WEF of desiring restrictions on ownership of personal property.
