This is the twenty-sixth installment in The Sounds of Fundamentalism series. This is a series that I would like readers to help me with. If you know of a video clip that shows the crazy, cantankerous, or contradictory side of Evangelical Christianity, please send me an email with the name or link to the video. Please do not leave suggestions in the comment section. Let’s have some fun!
Today’s Sound of Fundamentalism is a clip from a sermon preached by Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Steven Anderson, pastor of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona.
Nice man. Quite cute too in a neanderthalic sort of way.
He’s wrong on his statistics, in that most serious estimates of homosexuality put it around 10% of all populations, with transgender etc on top of that. Having said which, it’s no wonder so few actually ‘come out’ if the delightful Anderson is threatening to execute them!
It’s also telling that he ignores all the other Leviticus (et al) injunctions that don’t suit him, such as stoning people for a variety of reasons, owning slaves, and eating shellfish.
10%? That would be a claim that 1 in 10 people are a homo.
Do you believe your own bullshit?
In the general overall population it’s more like 1 in 100 (1%) if that.
SanFagSicko, CA doesn’t even have over 3%
And “transgender”?
There’s no such thing as being “transgender”.
No amount of surgical mutilation has EVER turned a woman into a man or vice versa.
Sorry Abraham, but no amount of shouting and screaming competes with sober analysis of the evidence.
Firstly, consider how hard it is to compile the evidence. Religious bigotry still detests the very concept of homosexuality, and in many countries it remains an offence. Indeed, until recently in both the US and UK it was regarded as criminal behaviour. So it’s to be expected that many who fall into the category are reluctant to admit it, even anonymously.
Secondly, homosexuality is more of a sliding scale than a binary issue of gay and straight. I can assure you that there are homosexual tendencies in you of which you may well be unaware.
Thirdly, transgender surgery isn’t about turning a man into a woman or vice versa. It’s about trying as far as possible to help match the physical body to the way in which the brain identifies itself. Some people are, to put it bluntly, born in the wrong body, and no amount of sanctimonious bigotry can change that. Deal with it, and enjoy life.

What a wonderful man of God; truly exceptional! I believe the Reverend Anderson would not fail to sacrifice his son as a previous believer did when God commanded it. Steven would kill his own child for God in faithful obedience if he heard the voice tell him to do so. Isn’t it wonderful that there are bipeds among us willing to serve God this way? Isn’t Christianity in America just the prettiest little thang you ever saw?
Hi Bruce,
This new guy is stirring up his church to hate same sex oriented persons. Is he trying to take over the mantle of the late, repugnant Fred Phelps?
His religion is full of hate and he has absolutely no idea about treating others with dignity. There does not seem to be an ounce of compassion, mercy and loving kindness ” in his bones”.
He is a professing Christian who believes that practising homosexuals are an abomination and enemies of his so-called god and we are called to hate them. He believes that Jesus commanded his disciples to hate their enemies, not love them.
What a repugnant theology he adheres to! It shows the problem with an infallible bible because the psalmist tells us that God hates his enemies, but Jesus tells us to love them. These two positions are contradictory.
Is he a dominionist or a theonomist? To advocate execution of same sex oriented persons who wish to relate to one another sexually is barbaric but biblical.
Shalom,
John Arthur
I’ve heard somewhere that Tel Aviv is the most gay friendly city on earth
