After reading two posts (Bethel Redding: A Dangerous Evangelical Cult and About), an Evangelical man sent me the following email (all spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the original):
Name: Freddie Valdez
Email: ****@gmail.com
Subject: Disgusted with your blog
Comment: I wonder what the apostles and martyrs of the christian faith would day to you….? I feel sad that your convictions, after having “pastored” are so mushy. I do hope you get converted back someday. I feel sorry for your children and your blog followers. You Atheism is as inspiring as you “theism”. You should express yourself through a hobby rather than preaching your humanist void…I never write to people I encounter on the web, but I find your material disgusting, but I guess that ud fine with you anyway. May the void bless you.
All I have to say is “sigh.” (Please see Why I Use the Word “Sigh”.)
Bruce Gerencser, 67, lives in rural Northwest Ohio with his wife of 46 years. He and his wife have six grown children and thirteen grandchildren. Bruce pastored Evangelical churches for twenty-five years in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. Bruce left the ministry in 2005, and in 2008 he left Christianity. Bruce is now a humanist and an atheist.

Well I’d guess the “martyrs of the faith” would say “Shit Bruce, you are dead right, that Jesus dude never did turn up in our lifetimes like he promised, boy were we duped”
Remember the line from Grumpier Old Men? The old lady says, “I find you disgusting!” And Burgess Meredith says, “As long as you find me, Dear.”
Poor Freddie. Narrow world view and limited vocabulary.
Freddy’s spelling and grammar is so bad that I’m almost tempted to give my standard response ‘is there an English translation’?
Poor fellow never learned proper spelling, grammar, or editing. Perhaps the apostles and martyrs would say that Freddie should have been more diligent in school.
May the void bless you too, Freddie.
I could be wrong but I have no recollection of anyone using the term “mushy” with you Bruce.
This is the same type of thinking that gets fundies to froth over an atheist muttering an “bad” word, but wink at the murder of transgender people. They are self-righteous and self-important, with a complete lack of empathy towards anyone who is a bit different.
“ I wonder what the apostles and martyrs of the christian faith would day to you”
Well that’s an interesting approach. Why would anyone care what apostles and martyrs would say? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to wonder why Jesus god would, say?
At least he didn’t threaten you with hell.
I believe “Freddie” is upset at the idea of a blog that doesn’t toe the Evangelical line–his version of it, anyway. And that it comes from someone who once toed that line, or something like it, as much as anybody could makes him, not only more upset, but also insecure. The problem (for him, anyway) is that he can’t or didn’t read enough of your blog to say what “disgusts” him, and even if he did, he isn’t articulate enough to express what bothers him.
