President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance embarrassed the United States on the world stage with a staged meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. I appreciate Zelenskyy standing up to the Orange Bully and his butt plug.
More world leaders need to follow in Zelenskyy’s footsteps, standing up to a bully who only knows violence and power. Trump has likely gift wrapped Ukraine for Vladimir Putin, but if enough world leaders stand their ground, maybe Trump will put an end to demands that violate the national sovereignty of other states. Maybe, though it is just as likely he will drag us into World War lll.
It is astounding that most congressional Republicans refuse to stand up to Trump’s acquiescence to Putin and Russia. What happened to Russia being our mortal enemy? Something tells me Russia knows things about Trump he doesn’t want anyone else to know, so they blackmail Trump to get him to do their bidding. This was clear when Trump demanded Zelenskyy apologize for what he said about Putin — a man who has killed thousands of Ukrainians and destroyed their country’s homes, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
Stupid reporter of the day was the one from right wing media who asked Zelenskyy why he didn’t wear suits. The reporter went on to allege that this is a burning question on the minds of Americans. Really?
It is not at all certain that our republic will survive Trump’s presidency. Maybe, but I have my doubts. Trump is unilaterally making decisions that could destroy our economy and lead us into military conflict.
Where is the Democratic Party? I’m at a loss to figure out the party’s game plan, or even if they have one. Outside of a handful of outspoken Democrats, all I hear is deafening silence.
We now have a bathroom law in Ohio that protects us from roaming hordes of transgender people storming public bathrooms and attacking us. Of course, this is a non-issue. There is no bathroom problem outside of the cheap, single-ply toilet paper used in most public facilities.
Ohio can fix the bathroom issue by making all bathrooms co-ed with individual, private stalls. See how easy that was?
There’s a measles outbreak in Texas. Most of the infected are unvaccinated Mennonites. This is yet another example of how Fundamentalist Christianity can and does cause harm and kill people.
Connect the dots . . . between Fundamentalist Christianity, MAGA, and vaccine denial. They seem to be closely connected.
Bonus: The Southern Baptist Convention has no intention of building a database to list preachers who have committed sex crimes. Their excuses are legion, all the while preachers continue to prey on children, teenagers, and vulnerable adults. As I’ve asked about people still attending Catholic churches, why do people still attend Southern Baptist churches?

I watched the entire video (nearly an hour) of Zelensky’s meeting with Trump, Vance, and company. It was about as normal as one gets with Trump until Vance decided to play mini-Trump bully to get attention. My guess is he is trying to get attention from Daddy Trump who has been spending so much time paying attention to Elon. What happened was uncalled for, and it made me wonder even more what hold Russia has over MAGAts (Trump particularly). Marco Rubio looked like he would rather be anywhere else.
Will any GOP politicians stand up against Trump? If enough would, they could rein in some of this nonsense. I doubt they will. If January 6 wasn’t enough, nothing will be.
As for Democrats, I can’t figure out what they’re doing. Maybe they’re letting MAGA wreak destruction so it’s clear to voters that change is needed (but innocent people will be harmed in the process). Maybe they’re disjointed and have no clear direction or leadership. In any case, they’re noticeably absent.
I don’t see USA surviving 4 years of Trump without massive damage. My husband says that either something incredibly globally destructive will come out of this, or we’ll have a massive revolution with progressive change.
OC, that sums up the position exactly as I see it, and especially the point that Shady Vance was trying finally to be heard over Felon Musk. My fingers are crossed (probably for a long time) that Europe can step into the breach entirely to compensate for America’s abrogation of duty. If that actually were to happen then the US might well fall into third place behind Europe and China in terms of world influence.
Read that the reporter who asked about the suit is Brian Glen (spelling?), MTG’s boyfriend/partner.
What a horrible scene yesterday.
My takes are about the same. Except I just can’t manage the stress over it, with Bob so sick. And I am DAMN mad at the Democratic Party. Although Dems have historically been mealy-mouthed. It’s a wonder that we got Social Security, Medicare, and the Civil Rights Act passed.
So I guess you think we just keep sending money down a rat hole like Ukraine and keep funding the corruption, and grift. Who cares how Trump acted, Zelensky is an entitled brat and if Trump stops the money flowing to that corrupt country- fine by me.
Waverly, Ukraine is full of corruption, though it hardly compares with that of the US, but in a time of war this becomes irrelevant. Russia invaded an independent country without provocation and allowing Russia to gain from this act of aggression will simply embolden it. The US decided long ago that it could only remain confident in its independence if it achieved military might, ironically in more recent times precisely to counter the threat posed by the USSR. Think of the 1950s when ‘Commies’ were thought to lurk in every corner and under every bed. Now you want to appease them?
One of my favorite quotes from Thomas Sowell, “there are no solutions , only trade-offs”. It’s not appeasement but a trade-off. I’m not willing to continue a fruitless and wasteful spending exercise when we need this money here to shore up SS and Medicare for starters. And yes the USA is corrupt but this is where I live, not Ukraine. And remember, FDR, most beloved president by almost all progressives, negotiated with Stalin (a thug and dictator) at Yalta and agreed that the Soviet Union would be allowed to exert heavy influence in Eastern Europe.

This is certainly possible (pee tape etc.), but really you just need to follow the money. The Kremlin has been using Deutchebank to give Trump financial backing after his plethora of bankruptcies. I don’t think it is a joke or fake news that Trump even has a code name “Krasnov”.
What’s odd is that Trump is embarrassed by anything at all but in particular anything the Russians could produce. Anything he does is ignored in short order or is considered fake news by his thralls.
Waverly—Yes, there is corruption in Ukraine. And in Russia. And the US. And, well, pretty much every nation.
But the real question is the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people. Putin, with Trump’s collaboration, is running roughshod over it.
OC mentioned something I have long suspected: Putin (or somebody connected to him) has “the goods” on the Fake Tan Führer.
We should always go back and look at history as a “lessons learned exercise” A thought experiment, from a comment I have seen before,in an alternative and more humane timeline, and FDR stayed away from Stalin as he knew what a tyrant he was , just look at Holodomor, we let the Nazis and Soviets kill each other in the Eastern front, we hold the line, and then rebuild all of Europe. No USSR. No “domino theory” of communism. No nuclear Russia.
Ignoring the truth us NOT good bud.
But, ignoring you sure is, bud. 🤣🤣🤣
