GEICO Ad Encourages Bestiality

I haven’t mentioned One Million Moms lately, but they have a new campaign against a GEICO ad they think promotes bestiality, so I thought I would bring their campaign to the attention of the perverted readers of this blog.

Here’s the ad:

After watching this video did you have thoughts of having sex with a pig?  Come on, be honest. Smile

The sexually frustrated women of One Million Moms had this to say about the the GEICO ad:

Maxwell the Geico pig goes on a date in Geico’s new piggy commercial. In Geico commercial, the pig and a young female are in a parked car on a lover’s lane. The car is actually broken down, but while sitting there the girl appears to be turned on by the pig. She hints that she wants to make out. She is disappointed when she learns the tow truck is on the way and they won’t be able to “pass the time.”

Geico has succeeded in offending its customers with this inappropriate advertisement. One Million Moms has received numerous complaints because Geico’s new commercial plays with the idea of bestiality. Parents find this type of advertising repulsive and unnecessary. Airing a commercial with an animal in it will surely grab children’s attention, but this is a horrible commercial for families to see. Geico does not have our children’s best interest in mind.

The Geico Marketing Team may have thought this would be humorous, but it is disgusting to see how the company takes lightly the act of bestiality. Let Geico know their new ad is irresponsible.

I find it interesting that the only people who see bestiality in the GEICO ad are sexually frustrated, puritanical, right-wing Evangelical women.  The rest of us? We see a talking pig.

Where Oh Where Are the One Million Moms?

If I started a group titled, One Hundred Redhead Hungarians for Peace, people would naturally expect the group consisted of at least one hundred Redheaded Hungarians.

When people go to the One Million Moms website, they likely think, WOW! this group consists of One Million Moms.

And they would be wrong. While no one associated with One Million Moms is willing to say exactly how many moms are actually a part of their group, I think we can find another way to determine how many moms are really a part of the One Million Moms group.

It is hard to tell if One Million Moms is a statement of fact or faith. Their about page says:

Our goal is to stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media (TV, music, movies, etc.). Mom, OneMillionMoms.com is the most powerful tool you have to stand against the immorality, violence, vulgarity and profanity the entertainment media is throwing at your children. It is time to fight back!

We are searching for one million moms who are willing to join the fight for our children. We want our children to have the best chance possible of living in a moral society.

As a member of a group of one million moms all fighting together, your voice can have a powerful impact. Money is the name of the game for those who exploit, and they are exploiting our children for their financial gain. Just imagine the influence you can have by joining with one million other moms! That represents economic power! When one million moms speak as a unified voice, letting it be known that we will fight with our dollars, YOUR VOICE WILL BE HEARD!

My suspicion is that One Million Moms have nowhere near one million moms supporting them. According to the National Organization of Women website there are approximately 80.5 million moms in America.

This means one out of four Americans are a mom. If One Million Moms really is one million moms this means one out of eighty moms belong to their group. This means that in the overtly conservative Christian rural county I live in, over one thousand moms are part of the One Million Moms group. Not likely…

I think there is a better way to determine the size of the One Million Moms group. According to the Social Bakers website, 50% of Americans have a Facebook account. (156 million) 56% of Facebook users are female. 87 million women are on Facebook. This is a pretty large pool from One Million Moms to draw from.

Surely, One Million Moms would have hundreds of thousands of Moms who have clicked “like” on their page?

Nope, as of today the One Million Moms page has:

49,411 likes, and many of these are men. This means .06% of the women on Facebook have showed their love for the work of One Million Moms by clicking “like.”(would actually be less if we knew how many men clicked “like” on the One Million Moms page)

It is important for us to understand this because those of us who are atheists or who are politically liberal/progressive often think these groups are larger than they really are. Most of these kinds of groups make a louder noise than would be expected from a group their size. They have learned to shout louder than the rest of us.

Evangelicals Should Stop Using Facebook and Google

Evangelicals, especially Southern Baptists and One Million Moms, love boycotting companies that support things that are contrary to their interpretation of the Bible or their right-wing political agenda. Supposedly these boycotters are operating from a higher moral principle. Well…let’s see if they really ARE operating from a higher moral principle. What follows is two news stories that should cause EVERY boycotting Evangelical to stop using Facebook and Google immediately. Let’s see if there are any calls for boycotts of Facebook and Google. (my money is on silence)

Facebook adds Same-Sex relationship icons. James Johnson, at the Blog Herald writes (link no longer active):

Facebook on Monday showed its support for gay marriage when the company debuted same-sex marriage status icons that best reflect a persons relationship status. In the past a bride and groom were used for straight couples who were married while no such icon was available for gay married couples.

The move was first spotted when Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes married his partner Sean Eldgridge. The men were met with the symbol for two grooms as he announced the wedding on his Facebook Timeline.

Facebook is no stranger to same-sex couple support, in 2011 the company created relationship options for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community members. Among the options available were “In a domestic partnership” and “In a civil Union…

Google Celebrates Gay Pride. From the official Google blog:

We encourage people to bring their whole selves to work. And this month Googlers, Gayglers (gay Googlers), and their families and friends took this spirit to the streets in Pride parades and celebrations around the globe. In Sao Paulo, a group of 50 marched as a Google contingent for the first time ever. In San Francisco, more than 1,000 Googlers and allies marched (nearly doubling the number of people we had in 2011!). In New York, more than 700 of our friends and colleagues took over 5th Avenue marching alongside our double-decker Pride bus. And this weekend in Singapore, we’re sponsoring the Pink Dot celebration for the second consecutive year.

It’s not just through Pride that we show our support for the LGBT community. At Mardi Gras in Sydney, we hosted two Queer Thinking seminars on Activism in the Internet Age and Queer Careers. We also have big plans for the World Pride celebration in London this year, launching a “Legalise Love” Conference at Google London, partnering with organizations to identify ways to decriminalize homosexuality and eliminate homophobia around the world.

In addition to supporting the LGBT community outside of Google, we made some changes to our benefits offerings to support our Gayglers. Earlier this year, we enhanced our transgender-inclusive benefits to cover transitioning procedures and treatment in accordance with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s (WPATH) Standards of Care, which includes coverage for procedures like facial feminization for transgender women and pectoral implants for transgender men. We also increased our lifetime maximum coverage for these benefits to $75K—more than double what it had been previously.

Next month we’ll carry the energy of Pride into our fourth annual company Diversity & Inclusion celebration, the Sum of Google. The Sum is an opportunity to celebrate and engage in a discussion about diversity and inclusion across our offices around the world…

How to Witness to a Christian Part 1

This entry is part 1 of 1 in the seriesHow To Witness to a Christian

The Bible teaches that Christians are to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every human being.  Christians believe that every human being is a sinner in need of salvation and deliverance. Through the merit and work of Jesus Christ every sinner can have the forgiveness of sins. Not only can every sinner have the forgiveness of sins, they can also have purpose, direction, meaning, and peace. Greater still, every sinner who puts their faith in Jesus Christ will have a home in heaven with God for all eternity. (strictly speaking, their home for all eternity will be the kingdom of God, a new Heaven and a new Earth)

Is it any wonder that the Christian gospel is called the Good News?  To those who put their faith in Jesus Christ, forgiveness of sins, purpose, direction, meaning and peace in this life, and a future home in heaven, is indeed good news. However, for those who reject the Christian good news, a life of meaninglessness awaits.(purpose, meaning, and direction begins with the Christian God)  Under the wrath and judgment of a thrice Holy God, the non-Christian will be tortured forever in the Lake of Fire because of their refusal to put their faith in Jesus Christ.

From its first days as a new religion, Christianity has made evangelizing non-Christians a priority. Jesus implored his followers to take the gospel message to the ends of the earth.  Every person in every country deserves to hear the good news.  Why should anyone hear the gospel twice before everyone has heard it once, says a sign in a Baptist church.  Another sign over the exit says, You are now entering the mission field.

Granted, many Christians do not evangelize non-Christians. They consider their faith to be a private matter.  They want to be well-liked and accepted by others, so they don’t share their religious beliefs with others. They rightly understand that religion and politics often bring contentions and they, as much as lies within them, desire to be at peace with everyone.

While this approach is to be commended, it is an approach that ignores the teachings of the Christian Bible and the example of the early church. Any cursory reading of the Bible shows that Christians were expected to be counter-cultural.  They were expected to live publicly as followers of Jesus Christ.  There was no such thing as a secret Christian. Early Christians would likely find our modern polite, cultural Christianity an affront to Jesus.

Regardless of the large percentage of Christians who are passive in their faith, millions of Christians take seriously their obligation to share the gospel with everyone they meet. Evangelicals, in particular, believe they have a solemn obligation to preach the gospel to everyone, even those who do not want to hear it. Often, armed with the belief that America is an exceptional nation specially chosen by God to advance his kingdom, Evangelicals use any means possible to make the gospel known to the ends of the earth.

Who are the Christians that tend to irritate, annoy, and anger atheists, agnostics, and humanists?  The evangelizing Evangelical type. While atheists often have a problem with ALL religions, their scorn and derision is usually focused on religions that proselytize.

If Christians kept their faith to themselves, if they made no attempt to turn the United States into a theocracy, I suspect that atheists would have little to be upset about.  However, since evangelizing is part of the Christian DNA (or should be), atheists and non-Christians alike, are forced to encounter Christianity everywhere they turn.

While the U.S. Constitution clearly establishes that the United States is a secular state, everything in our culture suggests that we are a Christian nation. (and that is why I say, we are NOT a Christian nation but we ARE a Christian nation)  The majority of Americans claim they are a Christian, though most of them are illiterate about what the Bible teaches. (This is, at best, cultural Christianity)

Christian churches populate numerous street corners in every town in America. (I don’t know of any community in the area that I live in that does not have at least one Christian church) Local, State, and Federal governments are overwhelmingly governed by politicians who profess faith in Jesus Christ.

There are Christian radio stations, TV channels, bookstores, and countless businesses advertise that they are a Christian business.  Everywhere you look you see Christianity. This is why Christian claims of marginalization and persecution are laughable and not supported by the facts.

We are constitutionally NOT a Christian nation but, in every other meaningful way, we are a Christian nation. While atheists, agnostics, and humanists love to quote the 16% NONE statistic, I hope this does not lull us into thinking that we are winning the battle for the hearts and minds of the American people.

All this statistic tells us is that Americans are becoming increasingly indifferent to matters of religion. While this is certainly a good thing, many of the 16% are passive about matters of religion and are not likely to engage others in meaningful dialog about religion, Christianity, and its intersection with American politics.  They simply don’t care.

If you are reading this I suspect you are not a passive atheist. I suspect the separation of church and state matters to you. I suspect you want to stop the Religious Right’s attempt to turn America into a theocratic state. I imagine you have a problem with attempts to teach creationism as science. I have no doubt you have few good things to say about Ken Ham, Answers in Genesis, James Dobson, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, or One Million Moms.

Maybe you are an angry atheist. You are tired of being evangelized, preached at, and judged by Evangelical zealots. If you are like me, you may have spent years in the Christian church and you now see how harmful Christianity, especially Evangelical Christianity, is. You read the Facebook, Twitter, and blog attacks by self-righteous, Holy Spirit filled, preachers of the Christian gospel, and it irritates the heaven out of you.

To people like you and me, these things matter. We not only want to se people who have been hurt by Christianity find help, we also want to push back any and all attempts to turn the United States into a theocratic state governed by the Bible.

If these things matter, then how should we best engage the overwhelmingly Christians culture we live in? This is the question I hope to answer in future posts.

Evangelicals and their Fear of Breasts

Let’s face it, Evangelicals have an irrational fear of breasts. Evangelical men are so weak that if a woman exposes even a portion of her breasts they are sure to fall into sin. I find it amazing that the Christian God can save them from any and every sin but he is quite powerless to keep them from being tempted and led astray by a woman’s breasts.

Let me illustrate this for you.

The following picture first appeared in the 1937 Popular Photography Magazine.

In 1937 this picture of a burlesque dancer appeared without the black bar over her breasts. 75 years later, when this picture was republished in the May 2012  magazine, the black bar was added to cover the woman’s bare breasts.

Why?

Several readers objected to the black bar being placed over the woman’s breasts. They considered it prudish and censorship, two things not normally on display in a photography magazine. (and I subscribe to the magazine)

The caption for the picture stated, “it was illustrated with semi-nude shots we have to black-bar today.” One reader asked for an explanation for the phrase “we have to.”

Why did the editors of Popular Photography magazine put a black-bar over the woman’s breasts? This was their reply:

The editors decided to add the black-bar to a photo originally published in Popular Photography in 1937 because we feared that running a topless photo would have gotten the issue pulled from distribution by some retailers, school libraries, and other outlets.

We have the answer to WHY and now we must ask the WHO question. Who is it that would object to this woman’s breasts being bared?

Those of us who follow the culture war carefully know who the WHO is. It is Evangelicals with breast-a-phobia. Groups like One Million Moms, the American Family Association, and Focus on the Family look for opportunities to gin up controversy. Let a Janet Jackson-like breast exposure occur and  48 hours later the Evangelical Borg are calling for people to cancel their subscriptions and calling on them to let their local libraries know they don’t appreciate the library exposing their children to porn. (no it is not porn but in the Evangelical mind porn has a far different definition)

The editors of Popular Photography need to realize that the Evangelical bark is a lot worse than its bite. Ignore them. Library directors need to ignore them too. The picture in question is not on the cover so no child is going to be breast-traumatized by walking past the magazine rack.

Pity the poor Evangelical. So weak that they can not withstand a look at a woman’s breasts. It should come as no surprise that Evangelical men and pastors find themselves in all kinds of trouble…..They are taught they are weak. They are taught they are but one sin away from being a pervert, child molester, porn addict, or rapist.

Teen boys are constantly berated and reminded that God will judge them if they give into temptation. After all, everyone knows photography magazines and National Geographic Magazine are gateway magazines. Let a teen boy gaze on naked women in these magazines and the next thing you will know they will be filled with raging lust and who knows what they will turn into next.

So silly, isn’t it?

One Million Moms Consider Boycotting Schweddy Balls

One Million Moms, the spastic right arm of the American Family Association, is offended that Ben and Jerry’s named one of their limited batch ice creams Schweddy Balls.

One Million Moms had this to say:

Ben & Jerry’s announced their newest ice cream flavor which sounds anything but appealing. Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with. The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.

The name originated from a Saturday Night Live skit featuring Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, owner of a holiday bakery called Season’s Eatings. “There are lots of great treats this time of year,” Schweddy says. “Zucchini bread, fruitcake, but the thing I most like to bring out at this time of the year are my balls.”

He then explains that he sells popcorn balls, cheese balls, rum balls—balls for every taste—and the ball puns proceed for about four minutes. Ben & Jerry’s chose to go with fudge-covered rum and malt balls for their flavor. The skit culminates in Baldwin stating that “No one can resist my Schweddy Balls.”

In the past, Ben & Jerry’s has released controversial ice creams, like a special edition of Chubby Hubby called Hubby Hubby last year which celebrated gay marriage. It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry’s.

The ice cream is being released in a limited batch, which means it will be distributed nationwide but only for three or four months. If it proves popular, another batch might be forthcoming, but we hope not.

“The name is irreverent,” says Ben & Jerry’s spokesman Sean Greenwood. “But we’ve always been about having some irreverence and having some fun … We’re not trying to offend people. Our fans get the humor.”

Several readers have asked me if One Million Moms is a parody site like The Onion. I wish that was the case but One Million Moms is indeed a real, live group of women who seem to be overtly preoccupied with sex, male genitals, and homosexuality.

One Million Moms and their Campaign Against Sex Toys

News release from One Million Moms (broken link):

There is a problem when websites for drug stores start looking like adult fantasy stores instead of a place for medical needs. We are highly concerned when adult toys are being sold online in the least likely places. Online filters may not catch this, and children are stumbling onto these sites by accident.

One of our supporters reported that her child found this on Rite Aid’s website. After checking around, our research proved Rite Aid is not the only offender. Walgreens and CVS (not nearly the quantity as the other two) are also at fault. When is it ok to sell v*br*tors, d*ld*s and other s*x toys on a drug store’s website? (An asterisk ‘*’ is used to ensure our emails get through to those who have signed up for our alerts. Otherwise specific words referenced would be blocked by some internet filters.)

At these sites, there is not a warning of any kind. These websites have online shopping available, and under “Sexual Wellness” or “Sexual Well-Being” there are pages of adult toys offered on the Rite Aid and Walgreens sites. CVS had one, and you have to type in the search box to find it.

Talk about puritanical. They won’t even spell out the words vibrators, dildos, or other sex toys for fear internet filters will block their email. (and I am not opposed to filters. we have one on our home network)

Let me ask a basic question here about the kid in the news release. Why was the child on the Rite Aid website? Show me a kid that surfs the web to find drugstore websites. Trust me, looking at drugstore websites is not a favorite pastime for young people.

If One Million Moms thinks the drugstore websites are bad , they might want to check out Amazon.com Now there’s a selection of sex toys. Not that I would know.

One Million Moms also objects to the sex toys being in the sexual wellness or sexual well-being section. Evidently, they seem to miss the fact that sex toys can be very helpful in keeping everyone involved sexually well. I wonder if the real issue is that One Million Moms are against masturbation, and since sex toys can be used for sexual self-gratification, they consider the use of them a sin.

Perhaps they might want to consider boycotting CHRISTIAN companies that sell sex toys.

One Million Moms and their Homophobic Agenda

I wrote a post the other day about One Million Moms calling for a boycott of Dancing with the Stars over their inclusion of Chaz Bono in the upcoming season.

Who is One Million Moms? One Million Moms is an online project of the American Family Association. According to their website One Million Moms (broken link) is:

…strictly an online campaign focusing primarily on the entertainment media (television, music, movies, etc.). The goal of this campaign is to stop the exploitation of children by such media.

One Million Moms wages what they call campaigns against the media industry.  The purpose of their campaigns is (broken link):

Mom, are you fed up with the filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children? Are you tired of all the negative influences our children are forced to contend with? If so, we urge you to become a member of OneMillionMoms.com.

OneMillionMoms.com was begun to give moms an impact with the decision-makers and let them know we are upset with the messages they are sending our children and the values (or lack of them) they are pushing.

Here are some of the burning issues that One Million Moms thinks are important (all links now broken due to a redesign on their website):

  • Chaz Bono being on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars
  • Levi ad that sends the wrong message to teens
  • Bert and Ernie getting married on Sesame Street
  • Zappos ad featuring nudity
  • Oreo commercial  using the phrase “shut the front door”
  • Febreze commercial using the phrase “Oh My God”
  • The new NBC show, The Playboy Club
  • Old Navy is going gay
  • NASCAR drivers and crews saying fuck (in, ing)
  • Google support of the itgetsbetter.org website
  • Glee’s hidden agenda
  • Abercrombie and Fitch clothing and advertisements
  • AXE commercials

After spending a good bit of time perusing the One Million Moms website I came to the conclusion that One Million Moms is a group of sexually frustrated, fearful, homophobic women. Here is what the site says about homosexuals (broken link):

The site (itgetsbetter.org) is for homosexual teens so they can feel better, get stronger in their sexual choice, and know it gets better with time. This is a false statement and harmful to America’s youth. This is not the way to help reduce suicide rates when, in fact, statistics have shown there is a higher rate of suicide among teens who chooses homosexuality as their lifestyle. Not to mention the health risks involved with a higher rate of contracting a disease and other forms of illness or harm. Homosexuals are more likely to molest children and are at a higher risk for depression and substance abuse. You can find out more at www.frc.org where the Family Research Council’s Peter Sprigg has researched this topic in depth on the Top Ten Myths About Homosexuality.

What are the Ten Myths about Homosexuality (broken link)?

  • People are born gay
  • Sexual orientation can never change
  • Efforts to change someone’s sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual are harmful and unethical
  • Ten percent of the population is gay
  • Homosexuals do not experience a higher level of psychological disorders than heterosexuals
  • Homosexual conduct is not harmful to someone’s health
  • Children raised by homosexuals are no different from children raised by heterosexuals, nor do they suffer harm
  • Homosexuals are no more likely to molest children than heterosexuals
  • Homosexuals are seriously disadvantaged by discrimination
  • Homosexual relationships are just the same as heterosexual ones, except for the gender of the partners.

One Millions Moms is an apt reminder that Evangelicals fear the gay even though they most likely rarely come into contact with anyone gay. Many Evangelicals have never met a gay person, have no gay friends, and attend churches who preach hot and heavy sermons about homosexuality. Never mind the fact that there are no openly homosexual people in the pews of  most Evangelical churches. (but there are plenty of closeted homosexual, right Ted Haggard.)

I want to encourage you to do two things to show your disgust for One Million Moms and their homophobic viewpoint:

  • First, go to their website and send a message to ABC (broken link) in support of Dancing with the Stars. Change the text of the letter to a show of support and add an appropriate subject line.  You will be asked to give your name and email address. Let’s send ABC a message, a message that says One Million Moms doesn’t speak for us. (Thanks to Cat for pointing this out!)
  • Second, in honor of One Million Moms, go to It Get’s Better and sign the pledge. By signing the Pledge you are saying: Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I’ll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I’ll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other bullied teens by letting them know that “It Gets Better.”

The Hypocrisy of One Million Moms

This is a short and to the point post.

One Million Moms is upset that Chaz Bono, a transgendered person has been chosen to participate in the upcoming Dancing with the Stars.

Here is their press release on the matter (broken link):

Some families have already decided against watching Dancing with the Stars because of the skimpy costumes and provocative dance routines, but now they have gone too far! This year, not only are they casting Carson Kressley from Carson-Nation, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and How to Look Good Naked, but also transgender Chaz Bono- child to Sonny and Cher- from the documentary Becoming Chaz will be appearing in the show. Both are LGBT rights advocates and promote this destructive lifestyle. DWTS is helping them create visibility for the LGBT community.

This is completely unacceptable and Christians should not watch the show, no excuses! Kressley will be paired up with a female dancer, and since Chasity, transformed to Chaz after her sex change in 2009, will also be paired with a female dancer.

To push the envelope even further for a program that could be a family show but is obviously not, Kressley is also author of the children’s book You’re Different and That’s Super, a children’s book promoting the homosexual lifestyle to children.

Bono is the show’s first transgender contestant and has served as Entertainment Media Director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs for GLAAD, said in a statement, “At a time when transgender representation in the media is sorely lacking, Chaz Bono joining the cast is a tremendous step forward for the public to recognize that transgender people are another wonderful part of the fabric of American culture.”

So up until now most One Million Mom supporters have been OK with Dancing with the Stars and there has been no reason to boycott the show?

The press release said Dancing with the Stars  is a program“that could be a family show.”

Really? Evidently all the ass wiggling, boob jiggling, sexy, seductive, provocative, AWESOME dancing doesn’t warrant a boycott, but now that one of the participants is transgendered a boycott is warranted.

Hypocrites. Selective morality. Puritanical. Homophobic.

Personally, I like the show. We don’t watch it very often, but we do watch So You Think You Can Dance religiously.

Does the dancing have a sexual component?

Yep, and that is why I like it. (and that’s why all those Christian viewers like it too)

It is great to be able to say that now. As a Christian, I had to watch with one eye closed and then repent after I watched the show. So much more fun now…….

As with all other Christian boycotts………..this one will amount to nothing.  Christians love their TV too much to get too serious about silly boycotts.

For me personally, I am announcing today that I will no longer read the One Million Mom website. Take THAT Moms. Of course the FIRST time I read the site was today.
