Sounds of Fundamentalism: Atheists are Stupid Says Evangelical Zealot Logan Joy

logan joy

The Sounds of Fundamentalism is a series that I would like readers to help me with. If you know of a video clip that shows the crazy, cantankerous, or contradictory side of Evangelical Christianity, please send me an email with the name or link to the video. Please do not leave suggestions in the comment section.  Let’s have some fun!

Today’s Sound of Fundamentalism is a six-minute video clip of Evangelical apologist Logan Joy sharing with his supporters why he thinks atheists are stupid.

Joy had this to say about atheists on his Facebook page (all spelling and grammar in the original):

Let’s just keep it real, atheism is the belief in nothing, that nothing randomly formed everything for no purpose or reason. A bunch of random people, random events, all living and dying for no reason. No morality, just ignorance and hatred for the one who created it all. Yet Christian’s are stupid? Atheists beg on their deathbed for mercy from a God they claim to not believe in, when in reality, it’s because they hate God. Most people hate God. There’s different forms of hating him. One is to worship the God that fits your lifestyle because the God of the Bible doesn’t cut it for you. Another is to be embarrassed of God and his word. There’s also just unbelief. Not believing and mocking others changes nothing. God has healed me, redeemed me, saved me, change me. If you’ve never felt the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit, once you do, you’ll never be the same.

We teach evolution as fact in schools when it’s undoubtedly a lie. It’s a lie. Well who knows, right? We’ll see when we die? I can pull up hundreds of testimonies of people declared dead for periods of time who will tell you just how real Heaven and Hell are. Oh but can we trust that? Go ahead, trust in nothing. Or be the Christian that believes God raised the dead but no longer raises the dead. Because He’s somehow changed.. Which is impossible. (Malachi 3:6)

Believe in what you want, God gives you free will but this life is fading fast for all of us. And one day, you may wish you listened to the crazy guy named Logan on Facebook.

Repent. Repent. Repent.

That goes for me as well. Pride kills more souls than any other sin. You’re not already forgiven, repentance is not optional.

First of all, this dude doesn’t even know what atheism. It is not a belief in “nothing.” It’s non-belief, which is entirely different.

We don’t “hate God” because, since most of us are, if nothing else, rational, we don’t hate something we don’t believe in.

I haven’t been dead—to my knowledge, anyway—but I had a very long and complicated surgery that for which I was rendered unconscious for most of a day. During that time and afterward (as, I think, the effects of the aesthetics and other drugs lingered), I had dreams and visions of people and places that had elements of, but were not the same as, ones I know in my waking life. There are all sorts of possible explanations for them, but I do not see them—as folks like Logan Joy might—as visions of “Heaven” or “Hell.”

“We teach evolution as a fact in schools when it’s undoubtedly a lie. It’s a lie. Well who knows right?” How does he go from “it’s a lie” to “who knows”?

So…This dude’s offenses include faulty definitions, false equivalencies and flawed (to say the least) logic in addition to grammatical and spelling errors. If he had been one of my students, his “paper”‘would be full of red ink!

Another uneducated moron droning on in his car! The old nonsense about ‘something from nothing’, when nobody ever makes such a claim, other than religious nuts. What is nothing anyway? I have no reason to think that there’s such a thing as ‘nothing’. And the silly fool nonsense about hating God? Why would I hate something that doesn’t exist? It’s like claiming that the idiot speaker hates leprechauns or pixies.

And evolution…oh brother, what’s the point? These people are beyond the reach of reason.

He really does not understand what atheism is. He doesn’t understand evolution. He doesn’t understand how the human brain works (to be fair, scientists are still working to gain a greater understanding of how the human brain works). “We don’t know” does not equal “a deity must have done it” – it simply means we don’t know yet.

Instead of his spurious claim that atheists are stupid, I think he would been on sturdier grounds to claim that where atheists lives, traffic accidents are more likely to occur. I point to these two separate traffic accidents, one of which occurred in October of 2022, the second accident happened in January of 2023. Both happened close to the town of Ney, Ohio. Are there any self-professed atheists in Ney , Ohio? There happens to be one ( two if you include the wife of the author of this blog). Two separate traffic accidents within a three month period close to a town of less than four hundred people? This whole comment is sarcastic.

Oh, it’s more than two accidents. Since 2008 there has been at least six accidents within five miles of our home. 🤣🤣 Three fatalities too, including a woman who once dated one of my sons.

So you “may” be on to something. 🤣🤣 Or it might be the flat, straight roads around here — the flattest part of Ohio. Number one cause of accidents? People running stop signs🛑.
